The fall season is a time to honor the work that has been done earlier in the year. In our community, the Fall Festival is a week-long celebration used to kick off the harvesting season full of gratitude. Each activity was carefully chosen to bring us together: reading a book provided us with a time of nurturing and slowing down, the virtual cooking class gave us an opportunity to break bread together, and the book club meetup supported the great need for community. What a wonderful time we had and even though things look different, we have found ways to be together.
A LOOK INTO OUR COMMUNITIES
First Plane (Ages 0-6)
The fall semester is well underway for the Primary children and they are settling in and finding their place in the classroom. The youngest children are able to walk independently to their classes with their bags. The older children are modeling grace and courtesy for the rest of the group; establishing respect for themselves and the whole community.

In the courtyard children have been enjoying riding on the tricycles. They are learning to stop when the person in front of them stops and to move when all children are moving. There are many opportunities outside for the children to develop their gross motor skills.
Second Plane (Ages 6-12)
In Ms. Veronica’s Upper Elementary classroom, many of us have started making educational games. For example, there is I'm Puzzled, which has art, math, science, and language puzzle pieces. The class has also created Historry (history-related questions), Math Hunter (all math operations), History Fun (history multiple-choice questions), Crazy Teacher (math, spelling, and history questions), The Risky Circle Game (designed to learn about the parts of a circle), and Trivia (containing general subject questions). The games are important because we learn skills such as teamwork and flexibility as well as reviewing whatever subject (or subjects) our games highlight. The games have been a big success and are a lot of fun. I hope that this inspires you to be creative, have fun, and learn at the same time!

Third Plane (Ages 12-18)
We would like to thank everyone who attended the virtual High School Open House on Thursday! We had so much fun talking about our high school experiences and answering your questions, and we hope you learned a lot about our program. We covered topics such as the curriculum, assessment process, opportunities such as trips and internships, and classroom dynamics.

REMEMBERING OUR FOUNDRESS
Sister Edna Ann
One of the materials created by Sr. Edna Ann, “Individualized Language Kit” consisted of 17 sequential activities and an Educator’s Manual. Activities were grouped by phonetics, phonograms, and sentence construction. Each grouping had its own boxes, cards, work pages and booklets, all designed to help a child touch, hear, and see. Phonetics, for example, included consonant and phonetic “picture boxes” containing cards with letters/words and cards with pictures corresponding to those letters/words so children could match text to image. Eventually the child would work up to the “phonetic command cards” – reading the full phonetic command (“run and stop,” “jump and hop”) the child would carry out the action.

AC MARKET
The Hive is a digital version of our Adolescent Community micro-economy. We will have a variety of products to purchase throughout the year, including homemade soap, fresh eggs from our community’s chickens, seasonal cards and art from our talented artists in the classroom, and organic seasonal produce from our gardens that will vary weekly.

ATRIUM
Recently, Sr. Theresa Josephine created new figures of Mary, Jesus, and the Apostles to accompany the Synagogue, where people worshipped in Biblical times, she made last year. "I made this so the children have material to work on the lesson," said Sr. Theresa Josephine. The figurines help to make the Bible come alive for

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Grecia Parra recently joined the staff at St. Catherine’s working in accounting. Originally from Venezuela, she is married to Diego, and has two daughters, Victoria and Isabella who attend St. Catherine’s. "I became an industrial engineer because my passion is helping people and working with numbers."

When asked about her favorite part of the St. Catherine's community, she says “The freedom to be yourself and to know that just because you exist, you are loved. That's not an easy thing to find anywhere else." She goes on to share "The support. There is no one I would rather raise my children alongside with or go through a pandemic with. These are my people."

When not spending time with family, Grecia loves to study theology, watch soccer, read, play golf, and run.
SCM ANNUAL FUND
This week marks the beginning of our 2021-2022 SCM Annual Fund drive. Each year, we ask our community of parents, grandparents, board members, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to make a meaningful gift to the Annual Fund. Every contribution helps to complete our operating budget and provide resources for the very best faculty, classroom materials, and environments for the academic, emotional, and spiritual needs of St. Catherine’s students.

The Annual Fund goal for this school year is $175,000 and 100% participation from parents, the board of directors, and members of our faculty/staff. Keep an eye on your inboxes this week for important Annual Fund messaging, and make plans to make your meaningful gift or pledge by December 1.
THANK YOU
We want to thank Renae Holman Murti for her contributions to St. Catherine’s and wish her all the best as she sets out on a new journey.
