Blessing of the Animals

"Keep a clear eye toward life's end. Do not forget your purpose and destiny as God's creature. What you are in his sight is what you are and nothing more. Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take nothing that you have received...but only what you have given; a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice, and courage."
St. Francis of Assisi

BRINGING WISDOM TO LIGHT
Thanks to those who were able to attend Board Information Night on October 2nd. The following is a summary of what was discussed at the meeting for those unable to come.

The board is a group of people who bring a willingness to dedicate their time and expertise to further the mission and vision of St. Catherine’s. Founded by Dominican sisters, St. Catherine’s embodies the Dominican charism and the 4 Dominican pillars of study, prayer, community and ministry. All who feel called by the Dominican charism and the St. Catherine’s community as a whole are in formation as sponsors of the school and as such are responsible for the mission and vision to be preserved, built upon and expanded.

We still need three (3) volunteers! One to watch over the potluck as people move through the line, one to keep the drinks flowing, and one to supervise the seedling table.

Please sign up to volunteer your time to make this a great event.

ADVANCING THE MISSION
Did you know gifts to the SCM Fund help cover the cost of AC unit repair and replacement?

Even with a cold front coming to town this week, Houston hasn't quite moved on from summer temperatures. It takes 16 air conditioning units to help St. Catherine's beat the Texas heat, and they shoot to the very top of our priority list when a maintenance issue pops up or a unit (or two!) is nearing the end of its useful life.

Help keep our community cool and comfortable by making your annual gift to the SCM Fund
Japhet Under the Stars Cancellation
The Japhet Under the Stars fundraising event previously scheduled for November 16 is canceled so that the school can focus attention on ongoing projects at Japhet and work in the Adolescent Community. We look forward to welcoming parents and friends to Japhet at a future date!

Mocktails, Cocktails & #MomFails
Party Added Just This Week!
Calling all moms! After a full Saturday of soccer games, birthday parties, piano lessons, ballet classes, and oh yeah did we mention birthday parties (?) — Mama needs a minute! For all the miles you've spent schlepping your sweet little ones all over town, for the middle of the night wake ups, for the times you've tried to get it right but got it oh so wrong— it's time to treat yourself.
Let's get a refreshing and extra delicious cocktail in your hand...or in both hands, no judgment here. And, for the expecting mom, or for the mom that wants to go alcohol-free, you deserve more than a boring ol' Topo Chico or plain bottle of water. Let's dress up that non-alcoholic bevvy and get creative with a cool and tasty mocktail that is sure to amp up your evening! For the mom whose only sustenance that day was a several days old banana and a handful of goldfish, we've got you covered. There will be an array of delectable treats, both savory and sweet, to fill that tummy (that may have seen it's better days, but Jesus, Mary and Joseph so help us if anyone mentions their morning Peloton or Orange Theory workout while we're stuffing our faces). Moms of SCM, please join us for a fun, festive, casual evening where we can all drink, eat, and be merry!

Saturday, December 7, 2019 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Level: Adults 21+ (Open to Alumni Parents)
Ticket Price: $45/person Maximum # of Attendees: 25
Location: Gubitz Residence
Hosts: Angie Gubitz, Janna Harris, Saudia Turney, Elizabeth Weaver
Please refer to the  Sociables Catalog for more information on all parties, and visit the Sociables Store to purchase your tickets.
INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
High School and AC Begin Building a Permanent Labyrinth
The High School and Adolescent Community have been hard at work building a permanent labyrinth for the school.

Walking the labyrinth is a part of the 6th year Rite of Passage and also an important part for spiritual centering, contemplation, and prayer.

In the coming weeks, we will share more about this exciting addition to our campus.

PSO ACTIVITIES
Saturday Soccer
Last Saturday, the SCM soccer fields were filled with future soccer stars! Forty-four primary and Lower Elementary students came out for a morning filled with learning new skills and playing with friends.

There is still time to register for Saturday Soccer. The next practice is Saturday, October 12 from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM.

Thank you to all of the volunteer coaches for all of their hard work! If you are interested in volunteering to coach, please contact Courtney Lerch at [email protected] .
Friends of the Garden Community Work Day

Thank you to everyone that came out Saturday to prepare the grounds for the PSO Fall Fest.

The citrus, fig and pear trees were prepared for winter—the fruit is almost ready for picking!

Morning Children Play Date on Friday, October 11

The PSO New Parent Welcome Committee would like to invite the families of  all  AM children (new and returning!) to join us on the SCM soccer field this Friday, October 11 at 11:30 AM for snacks and play time.

For those who wish to attend, please drive through the carpool line as usual to pick up your child, then park and walk through the school entrance to join us at the soccer field.
HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Welcome back to the High School Corner!

This week, we’re excited to share with you an exciting new project we’ve been working on in Physics. To help us apply some of the concepts we’ve been learning in class—including Newton’s Laws of Motion and the forces of momentum, inertia, acceleration, and friction—we are building roller-coasters using only cardstock, tape, and our own imaginations.

Click on the video to watch our coaster-building!

Thank you for reading (and watching)!
