BRINGING WISDOM TO LIGHT
Charles Novo Joins the Adolescent Community as a New Guide

To ensure that our students have a strong year of learning, I have hired a seasoned, gifted teacher well-known by many in our community. Mr. Charles Novo taught at St. Agnes Academy for 37 years. He loves literature and humanities and is particularly passionate about writing. In keeping with our Montessori philosophy, Mr. Novo’s interaction with students focuses on teaching them how to think.

Three of St. Catherine’s employees have either been taught by Mr. Novo or have had a child in his class. Those familiar with his work are unanimous in their remarks that he is a vibrant, caring professional. I particularly liked the comments from former students who described the thorough, supportive, and constructive feedback they received on their written work.

Mr. Novo will replace Ms. Jan Holloway from England who encountered obstacles in our country’s current, complex visa atmosphere.

Blessings,

Susan Tracy

Fiesta Miami Vice (Adult)

Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 6:30-midnight

Come experience last year’s Fiesta Cubana on a whole new level- MIAMI VICE STYLE! You’ll be transported back to early 80’s Miami where the boats were fast, the music was bumping and the people were hot!, hot!, hot! This will be a night to remember, so “don” your best pastel colored linen jackets, swankiest bejeweled shoulder pads and get ready to dance the night away while enjoying Cuban cigars, roasted pig, mojitos and a very special Miami Vice signature cocktail! But fair warning: don’t be surprised if you find yourself swimming with flamingos by night’s end or going home with a new pet alligator... this IS Miami after all! So do yourself a solid, and come relive the Wild, Wild West days of Miami when Crockett and Tubbs’ gangster-fighting ways became the soundtrack for a whole generation. Now let’s turn that beat around, because once that rhythm hits your system, there’s no way you’re gonna stop! ¡Azucar!

HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Welcome back to the High School Corner!

The High School looking forward to performing Our Town , a play written by Thornton Wilder, this semester. We read and discussed Our Town in Literature Seminar class and are now working with Mrs. Snow to prepare a stage performance. This three-act play is not an easy one to perform. Our Town tells the story of the fictional American town of Grover’s Corners in the early 20th century. A revolutionary play at the time it was written, it features minimal set pieces and props. The objects mainly seen on stage are ladders, benches, and chairs, and everything else—from cooking dinner to feeding the chickens—is pantomimed. The raw simplicity of this work is what makes it so beautiful; it’s about the characters and the audience’s experience.

Due to the fact that the stage was set up for Tuesday evening’s Climate Caucus, we weren’t able to film this week’s rehearsal of Our Town for this HS Corner entry. However, we were able to film while we worked on our pantomiming skills. Please watch the fun video below and try to guess what we’re pantomiming!

Thank you for your time; we hope to see you back next week.
