Last night, families from St. Catherine’s and other Houston area schools gathered at the High School Open House to chat with our students, their guides, and college counselor to learn more about our high school program.
St. Catherine’s Montessori High School – Houston’s only Catholic Montessori high school – will graduate our first class of seniors in May; realizing the final step in the school’s strategic goal to provide a high school program for the older adolescent. The high school offers a student-centered, interdisciplinary, and experiential education grounded in the principles of AMI Montessori education. Students are offered AP courses, can take dual-credit classes at the University of St. Thomas, and can complete independent studies courses. 12th graders may complete an independent capstone research project. Travel learning, mentorships, and internships are also an important part of this program.

Join the SCM community for the annual tradition, Blessing of the Animals. In remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures, families are invited to bring pets on a leash or in a carrier to be blessed at school.
If you are unable to bring your pet, your child may bring a picture instead. If you arrive with your pet before 8:45 AM, please wait in the Dominican Peace Garden. We want to give Primary children, who may be excited or anxious around animals, space to arrive in their usual manner.
Bags will be available for you to pick up your pet's waste. The ceremony will last about 15 minutes, and pets must be taken home immediately after the event.

Did you know gifts to the SCM Fund help purchase Montessori materials?
The first Montessori materials were created over 100 years ago based on Maria Montessori’s illustrations. Her designs were centered on the principle that the environment gives voice to the materials, enabling children to make individual choices and work independently at their own pace. Montessori materials are intricately designed and specially crafted to invite children into lessons and, through the careful handling of the materials, children learn from a young age to respect their tools, their environment, and other students.
Help support our prepared classroom environments by making your annual gift to the
SCM Fund

Harvesting Olives and Peace in the AC
|
|
This week, Adolescent Community students harvested olives from the trees located around the Timberside campus. Olives are among the many variety of fruits and vegetables grown at St. Catherine’s and sold at the AC Market.
In addition to bearing a tasty treat, olive branches are a symbol of peace or victory. Working with the olives and learning about their history and meaning is another way the AC students are weaving the study of peace into their studies this year. The fruit of their labor will be ready to sell at the AC Market in the coming weeks. The curing process takes some time, but it will be worth the wait!
