“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
—St. Catherine of Siena
“This quote resonates with our mission at St. Catherine’s to awaken in our students the awareness of their gifts and responsibilities as individuals in relationship with Jesus Christ and as stewards of the global community.”—Susan Tracy, Head of School.
At the August 30th
Welcome Back Parent Meeting Head of School Susan Tracy welcomed many parents to the start of the school year by affirming their decision, with research and testimonials, to choose a Montessori education for their children.

We Invite You to a Climate Caucus
On Tuesday, September 10 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, St. Catherine’s Montessori is hosting a nonpartisan student-led climate caucus featuring moderators and panelists from SCM and other area high schools and universities. The event is open to all interested parties to discuss key climate and energy issues, and potential solutions to respond to climate change.
The goal is for students of different beliefs, backgrounds and interests to engage respectfully with one another, listen to opposing views and constructively discuss their opinions on the topics of climate and energy. Our students have invited a variety of state and local political candidates to attend as audience members and participate in a student-led Q&A session on these issues at the conclusion of the student panel.
Participating schools include: Strake Jesuit College Preparatory; Rice University;
The Emery/Weiner School; Memorial High School; Klein Collins High School; Lamar High School; and Sharpstown International High School.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Drop-off and pick-up are important transitions in your child’s day, and we make every effort to encourage your child’s confidence and independence.
The following procedures are designed with your child’s needs in mind, along with the safety and efficiency of the carpool line.
- Do not park in the carpool lane during arrivals or dismissals.
- We ask that all parents stay in their vehicles during morning arrival and all dismissals (except Infant Community parents who pick up and drop off in the Welcome Center).
- At dismissal, please use Link Valley to queue up for the carpool line. This prevents the line from backing up on Timberside Drive and extending towards the 610 freeway.
- All students exit the passenger side.
- Please arrange car seats accordingly.
- Assistants and staff will be present at the curb during Primary drop-off to help students from the car and to ensure that students arrive in their classrooms. Initially, staff will walk children to their classrooms, but as children’s familiarity and independence progresses, they will walk to class by themselves.
- If you need to conduct business inside the school, please park in the parking lot after you have allowed your child to be assisted from your car at the curb.

Why Host a Student Climate Caucus?
St. Catherine’s Montessori was asked by Energy Media to host a student-led climate caucus in order to give America’s youth the opportunity to speak up about issues that are of utmost importance to them, especially in the face of the upcoming presidential election. Students will be integrating their work in environmental science, government studies, and presentation skills to host the event, which will feature a student panel and student moderators. Please watch the following video in order to understand a little more about the event!
Registration
is open through September 8. We hope you will join us!

Youth Climate Meetup: Film, Food, and Fest!
Dear SCM families,
My name is Julia Lewis and I am a 10th grade student at SCM. The past couple months I have been working with Citizens Climate Lobby to plan a youth climate meetup with the Sunrise Movement, Mi Familia Vota, and the Houston Youth Climate Council.
We will be showing four short films, including the film I produced for the
From Knowing To Acting
symposium last spring, followed by a film discussion. The second part of the event will involve visiting booths run by representatives from the organizations involved, making connections with other students taking action, and learning how to get involved and take action in your local community.
It would be absolutely wonderful if some of the St. Catherine’s community could attend. Parents and students of all ages are welcome, although it would probably be most beneficial for students from Upper El through High School.
Hope to see you there!
Julia Lewis
