The Goddard School in Huntingdon Valley Newsletter
Each year, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) acknowledges the importance of educating young children by holding a week-long celebration focused on the earliest learners and honoring those who teach them. This national celebration, known as the Week of the Young Child (WOYC), gives early childhood programs, community organizers, and state and local affiliates an opportunity to host events and activities for early learners, teachers, and families.
Week of the Young Child begins April 3-7, 2023.
Check out what else NAEYC has in store for this exciting week.

The Week's Events:

Music Monday
Not only does music develop creativity, but children can learn literacy, language, and math skills through music. We will be creating our own song about our classroom and friends.

Tasty Tuesday
This day focuses on teaching young children about healthy eating and fitness. We will be pudding painting in our infant classroom. In the rest of the building, we will be taste testing different foods and talking about our senses.

Work Together Wednesday
Help young children develop social skills and learn to work together by building together. Each classroom will build their version of The Goddard School using different materials such as blocks, legos, magnitiles or lincoln logs.

Artsy Thursday
Art is very important for developing creativity and fine motor skills. Each classroom will be creating their own group masterpiece using shaving cream or cool whip.

Family Friday
We will be CLOSED on Friday, April 7th. We are asking for each family to celebrate these young learners by helping them to create their own family portrait using materials such as crayons, markers or paint. Then on Monday have your child bring in their Family Portrait to show to their friends.
Spring pictures will be on Tuesday, April 18th & Wednesday, April 19th. Tuesday will be for Infants through Get Set, as well as, siblings. Wednesday will be for PS1 through Kindergarten. If a child is not there on their scheduled picture day, they will be able to take pictures on the other day. We will be using the same company we used in the Fall, Focus Photography.

Infant Classroom
March was all rainbows and shapes in the Infant room! Each week of March we learned about different shapes. We discussed circles, squares, triangles, stars, and hearts! Everyone had a blast creating various art projects with different shapes. We stamped circles, made clovers, put stars on a night sky, and created beautiful colorful hearts. Our most read book this month was "I Like It When" by Mary Murphy.
We enjoyed a wonderful month of hearts, stars, and horse shoes, clovers and blue moons! We are confident that April will bring so many learning opportunities with it!
First Steps
The First Steppers had a marvelous March!  We, of course, celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.  We made homemade decorations for our classroom door with our handprints.  We even made edible green play dough.  Most importantly, from March 6th through the 10th, we celebrated “Read Across America”.
We enjoyed reading many animal books, dancing to the “Animals Freeze Dance”, as well as some fun sensory activities.  Our favorite art project was putting together a big yellow giraffe on paper!  We look forward to an awesome April!
Pre-Toddlers
           Busy, Busy, Busy...
The month of March was filled with lots of fun and learning. The
Pre-Tods class enjoyed making a
Dr. Seuss hat and reading many
Dr. Seuss books in celebration of "Read Across America". The Pre-Tods worked with a few new letters, colors and shapes during circle time, they also learned how to name some of the animals at the zoo using sign language. Creative minds were hard at work as they made their own lion's mane and tiger tails. Then we went on a bear hunt around our classroom. Pajama Day and Crayon Day was so much fun, our little ones were so excited to show off their favorite pjs and wear their favorite color in the crayon box. The
Pre-Tods class is ready and very excited to see what the month of April brings!
Toddlers
In the Toddler classroom, we were introduced to a crazy and fun new theme ; Dr.Seuss! A few of our favorite activities were pretending to have duck feet, creating a "Would You Rather ?" graph , coloring the shape of us traced on paper, painting with apples, digging in sand to find different animals, using goldfish to count (and snack on) and participating in the different Read Across America Week dress up days. Wacky Wednesday was the best!.
Our favorite books this month were "Would You Rather be a bullfrog?" ,"I Wish I Had Duck Feet", "Wacky Wednesday", "Ten Apples Up On Top", "Book of Animals", "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" and many more. We are excited to see what the next month brings!
Get Set
We have had a lucky month! We loved celebrating Read Across America where we read so many Dr.Seuss books. Our favorite books this month were The Monster at the End of This book and Another Monster at the End of This Book!
We were super excited to have had our Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, Grandmas and Grandpas come and read to our classroom. We loved listening to the stories they picked for us.
This month was also filled with some fun art, some of our favorites were when we made the wacky creatures for Wacky Wednesday and the hot air balloons for the Places You Will Go. We are so excited to see what next month has for us.
Preschool 1
March has been so full of excitement! We began our month with Read Across America week, where we explored so many wonderful books written by Dr. Seuss. We became expert rhymers & imagined all the places we could go in the future. March was also Women’s History Month. We learned so much about influential women throughout history & today. Our favorite project was recreating a portrait of Frida Kahlo. But most of all, we loved talking about the special women in our lives. During the week of St. Patrick’s Day, we learned about rainbows, leprechauns & talked about what made us feel so lucky. And with seeing all this green, we are ready for Spring! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for April!
Preschool 2
We had such a fun March here in Preschool 2. We continued working on our letter of the week while also learning about fun and new topics including the zoo, Dr. Seuss, women in history, and Spring. We also participated in some fun science experiments such as colorful volcanoes and dancing rice. Then we did some fun St. Patrick's Day activities like making our own ediable rainbow, talking about leprechauns and reading St. Patrick Day books. Our favorite book this month was the "Good Egg". We loved learning about being a good friend. We can't wait to learn even more in April!
Kindergarten Prep
We marched into this month knowing how much fun it was going to be! We started the month by celebrating Read Across America! We had a different mystery reader every day and it was so much fun to see which book they would be reading to us. We continued to work on syllables and started learning about three and four syllable words! In math, we mastered patterns and moved on to measuring! We used cubes to measure different objects around our classroom and even measured our friends! During art, we made pattern pants and pattern shirts to make our very own pattern outfit! We also made flowers for the first day of Spring! We can't wait to continue to grow in April!
Kindergarten
Can you believe a leprechaun came to visit us this March? We had a blast working as a team to create different traps to try and trap a leprechaun but he still managed to trick our class and get away! We also loved creating different Spring time art, including pop flowers. Our class had the opportunity to analyze a favorite springtime story, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." We are very excited to see what fun April will bring!
