I’ll never forget driving to Gulfport, MS on August 29, 2005, when everyone else was evacuating. The unknowns were piling up, as we set out to join Truett our VPO who decided to wait out Hurricane Katrina along with other employees and the now famous “Stormchasers” who videotaped the historic 28ft storm surge (later to be recognized in a book) at our Holiday Inn across the street from the ocean. I vividly recall the scene at arrival with cars washed inside the lobby, the framework resembling a new build, and the team ensconced on the second floor of the hotel. We were able to swiftly make due to serve meals to the National Guard and house FEMA 60 days later.
