Adversity: Are You a Carrot, an Egg or Coffee?
In recent months, there are many in this congregation who have been through difficult, and even tragic moments. Some have experienced great physical pain personally, or ached as they watched a loved one in pain. Others have gone through great emotional pain and grief as a loved one has passed on to their heavenly home. Some have experienced pain as they watched someone special backslide from their sobriety, or get in trouble with the law. Others struggle with memory loss or losing independence due to lessened physical or mental abilities. Some have lost jobs and others watch, in frustration and sadness, as children and grandchildren get divorced. My heart breaks for so many. Life has a multitude of rotten things to throw at us, and we will ALL experience some of these. The question is, “How do YOU deal with adversity when it happens?” When you find yourself in rough times or dark valleys, do you hide your head in the sand like an ostrich, and pretend it’s not happening? Do you run away in fear? Do you get overwhelmed and find yourself unable to think or even function? Do you get angry, either with someone who was not the cause, or even get angry with God? Do you feel helpless or are you a fighter? God tells us, throughout both the Old and New Testaments, how to get through these tough times. Most of all, God reminds us that we are given power to get through it, and that we are never alone. God walks with us through the darkest of valleys - not
over
the valley and not
around it
—but
through
it! So, come Sunday to find out how God can help you during these tough times, and just exactly what do “carrots, eggs and coffee” have to do with it!

It’s Time to Sign Up for Small Groups!
If you’ve never been part of a small group or Bible study at a church, summer is a great time to start! It is a wonderful way to develop new friendships, and grow in your faith, as you explore what God is telling us in the Bible.
We will study Adam Hamilton’s book
Creed: What Christians Believe and Why
, which includes a DVD. He helps us explore what Christians believe, why they believe, and why it matters. He uses the Apostle’s Creed to explore these themes. We will confront and examine our own core beliefs, and go beyond the Creed’s familiar words. Hope you will join us!
Please sign up in the narthex, call the church office, or send an email to [email protected].
Book will be provided for a donation. ($8.00 is a suggested amount). We have two opportunities for the Bible study, which starts on July 10th.
Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am
Hosted by Wendy McKee at FUMC in the Church Parlor
Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm
Hosted by Pam Kennedy at her residence. (off of Airport Pulling Road, south of Pine Ridge Road)

A Note From Your Treasurer
Last Sunday, we hosted a luncheon after our regular worship service that was attended by approximately half of those at the service. The subject was our annual summer “Pull Forward” during which we ask members to give during July, what they planned to give in the fall. This is necessary because we experience a significant fall-off in contributions after our seasonal members depart for cooler climates. We shared the current financial situation of the church. We discussed the fact that most of our operating costs are salaries and utilities which continue year round. We answered questions and I provided my cell phone number, which is available to all, for questions or information. The response so far has been wonderful, but more is still needed. Thank you and God bless you all.

Local Naples Child in Search for Bone Marrow Donor
You may have seen on the news about the story of a young boy who is fighting for his life in our city. His name is Dalton and he is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Click the link below for more information of his fight. His mother is seeking help within the community, asking for anyone to register with Gift of Life; to find out if they could be a potential donor. Gift of Life will send you a kit to swab the inside of your cheek for cells to see if you are a match. Donations through organizations, like the Gift of Life, are paid for by the patient’s insurance or the organization itself. Please keep him and his family in prayer.
Dalton is receiving cards at:

We are looking for volunteers to teach our Sunday School children. Whether it’s for a week or for a month. Lesson plans and guides are provided, as well as videos of sermons you will miss when teaching. This is a very important ministry. Come change the lives of our children and help make disciples of Christ. Please pray about it and let the office know if you are available.

Have you ever thought about our church's Mission? It's on the front cover of our bulletin every week. It is our way of living out the United Methodist Mission:
"To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World."
Making Disciples means that we will:
- Help people to know Jesus for the first time, so that they will realize their sins have been forgiven, repent and accept the wonderful gift of salvation
- Help people grow in their faith and be transformed by the Holy Spirit to become more like Jesus every day, loving God with all their heart.
- Help to alleviate suffering in the world as Jesus has asked us to do in Matthew 25, by loving our neighbor.
EVERYTHING
we do at FUMC, and every penny we spend, should support Jesus' mission in the world.
