From the Pastor
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
Summer is rapidly coming to a close with school starting next week on August 10th in Collier County. Our MDS preschool and VPK will commence on that same date. Please be in prayer for all the children, teachers and parents as our children all head off to their new school adventures. Please also drive carefully as school driving zones are now back in place.
Please also keep our youth in prayer as our youth program is restarting. Right after church, our youth will be heading off for a fun-filled afternoon of mini-golf and lunch.
While we take a brief break from our Bible studies, we do have a men’s group breakfast and please think about coming to help out with food packing. Just scroll down to see how to sign up!
Last week I preached about how important it is to give back to God, after all God has given to you. We talked about what some of those God-given gifts are and what kinds of things you can give in return. The biggest, of course is giving of yourself - using your time and talents to love others and “to serve.” We handed out a list of “Action Teams” with individual volunteer needs we have here at the church. We asked you to pray about this and see where your talents, skills and interests are strongest in choosing something you would like to do for Jesus through our church. Please bring in your sheets, filled out, this Sunday to turn in! We’ll have more for anyone who did not get one last week or you can click on this link and print it out: Sign up for an Action Team here!
Many hands make possible all the ministry we are doing here at FUMC!
Praying you all have a safe and God-filled weekend, and I am looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday. Please remember to bring a friend to worship with you. Please pray for your church family. Scroll down to the bottom of this email for our Prayer list.
Love and Blessings,
Pastor Nancy

IMPORTANT NOTICE! DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that you may not be getting a portion of your Eblast because Gmail and some other email programs may limit what they display. You may be missing important articles, photos and our Prayer List! How to find out? If you get to the bottom and have not seen the Prayer List or our MDS Preschool photos, then you know there has been a cut-off. After you reach what looks like the end, you may see a little note down at the bottom that says something like: "View entire message", or Click here to view all” or “Click here to continue.” Press that and you will see what you are missing that has been cut off!

Life & Faith Lesson
Chaplain Scott Ehler
The Temptations of Christ
Throughout life come temptations. Those situations that present themselves when we are at our weakest. Did you know that after Christ was baptized and before He started His ministry here on earth, He went through a period of temptation from Satan? He had just fasted and communed with His Father for 40 days and at His most vulnerable moment Satan came and tempted Him three times. How do we overcome? Come Sunday at 10:15am, in-person or online through YouTube, to explore this further.
Scripture: Matthew 4:1-11

Altar Flower Ministry
We have two altar flower dedications this week.
Flowers are being placed by Dick Evans in honor of Marie Evans's birthday.
Flowers are being placed by Steve and Bea Mohler in honor of their 62nd wedding anniversary.
The rose bud on the altar is in memory of Bob Moates who went on to glory recently (scroll down for more info)..
Every week, you have the opportunity to donate altar flowers for our Sunday worship and dedicate them to the memory of someone who was special to you or to honor someone who presently needs to be recognized! The cost is $40. Purchase and dedication can be arranged by signing up in the church lobby or by sending an email to Jaimie Dandridge at admin@fumcnaples.org. Then you can either pick up your flowers after church or donate them for us to take to organizations in our community, bringing a ray of sunshine to workers and volunteers. Our most recent flowers were delivered to Avow Hospice.

Robert “Bob” Moates
August 16, 1927 - July 22, 2022
The rose bud on the altar this Sunday is in memory of Bob Moates who was a member here at FUMC. He went on to his heavenly home on July 22, 2022 , though we only recently learned of his death. Bob’s wife, Jane, passed away just two months before his passing. He has not been able to be in church for many years, you may have seen him on the “Untold Stories” on PBS which tell the history of our area. You will often see Bob being interviewed about the history of Naples or Collier County, as he was a history buff. I spoke to Bob shortly after his wife had passed. I commented that I had enjoyed the stories he told in those interviews and he laughed. He enjoyed doing them. Although we did not find an obituary for Bob, this article published by Hardin-Simmons University will tell you a great deal about his life and many accomplishments. He was named Distinguished Alumni in 2011.

Your Continued Support of UMCOR Relief
Is Greatly Appreciated
UMCOR, the United Methodist Commission on Relief, assists United Methodists and churches to become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need. Right now, UMCOR is actively helping provide relief for victims of: US tornadoes and flooding, earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, flooding in Haiti and the invasion in Ukraine.
You can support the relief and recovery efforts by sending your donation to the church, earmarked with the specific area in which you wish your gift to be applied and it will be sent to UMCOR for immediate on-the-ground help. Please also pray for the many people impacted in all these disasters.

Men’s Ministry Breakfast
The next Men’s breakfast will be on August 17, at 9:00 am at Joe’s Diner, 1225 Airport-Pulling Road South, Naples, FL 34104. We hope you will join us for a great time of fellowship and a short devotion and discussion led by Chaplain Scott. Open to all men in the congregation. Bring a friend.

Action Teams
Many of you heard Pastor Nancy mention in her sermon on July 30th about showing God your love through giving. You may have even heard Chaplain Scott mention that we are called into a relationship with Jesus, as well as service with Him. As we pray and move forward as a church, we are looking to start new ministries and revitalize those we had before the pandemic. To do this we need your help! We would love for you to fill out an Action Team Survey and let us know what you are interested in. Please click on the link below to open the form and email it back to the office or print out and bring to church on Sunday.

-
Bring in food or financial contributions earmarked for “Food Ministry” and we will deliver to either Grace Place or St. Matthew’s House for their food pantries.
-
Volunteer to come help pack food for 1.5 hours on an upcoming packing day. To sign up, contact Wendy McKee, our food-packing coordinator, at WendyMckee3@gmail.com. She will schedule you. It’s lots of fun!

Please Pray!
Please be sure to let us know if you or a loved one are in the hospital in Naples. Chaplain Scott or Pastor Nancy will come visit. Since HIPAA privacy rules came into play, the hospitals no longer let us know when one of our members is in the hospital. Also, be sure to let us know if someone you have placed on the prayer list is out of the hospital, recovered from COVID or completed their chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Please continue to pray for people around the world who are suffering. Pray that God will bring them help and relief and will make His presence known to them through God’s Spirit. Then pray for guidance on how you can help. You just may be the answer to someone's prayer!
