Communion Sunday

Mother's Day

May 8, 2022

From the Pastor

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

I am happy to be back. I’ve been sick for almost two weeks, but my voice is almost back to normal. Thanks to everyone who helped with the service last week and we are grateful to Rev. David McBride for stepping in on short notice – everyone liked his sermon. Welcome back to Claudia Tracy. We thank God for Claudia’s recovery and she thanks all of you for your prayers.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers and those who have filled the role of mother. We also acknowledge that there are many who have not been able to fill this role, not necessarily by choice. Our prayers and love go to all.  This Sunday we have a gift for all women coming to worship.

This Sunday, we will be doing Holy Communion and after-church “Coffee & Cookies” time, both of which were postponed from last week. We will continue to postpone, by one more month, our serving communion at the rail. With me only recently recovered from being sick, and so many people recently contracting Covid in our community, I think it prudent to not be serving you so closely, just yet. For now we’ll continue serving in the manner we’ve done throughout the pandemic. Then we’ll see how next month looks and probably go back to our “at the rail” communion at that time.

This Sunday, we are relaunching our children’s Sunday School. Scroll down for more details. Parents must register and their children will leave the sanctuary right after the Children’s Moment.

We still have an immediate need for a new “Flower Ministry Coordinator” as Mandy Heinitsh is going back up north. Scroll down for more details on what this very special position involves.

I have been sad to see our many seasonal people leave during these last few weeks, not to return to worship or participate in activities until October, or maybe as late as January. It makes me realize how much I am going to miss them!   Our year-rounders are also heading out on summer vacations, either up north or even overseas. They will be missed too! We need to be praying for safe travels and a great summer for each of our travelers.

Pray also for peace in the Ukraine and for the heartache and many difficult challenges the people of Ukraine are facing. Pray for our college students graduating this week. Please scroll down to our prayer list below for the many health needs of our faith family. As always, please keep me posted on whether I need to add you or a loved one to our prayer list or if you just need private prayer from your pastor.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, either in-person or online!

Love and Blessings,

Pastor Nancy

IMPORTANT NOTICE! DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that you may not be getting a portion of your Eblast because Gmail and some other email programs are cutting off the bottom? You may be missing important articles, photos and our Prayer List! How to find out? If you get to the bottom and have not seen the Prayer List, then you know there has been a cut-off. After you reach what looks like the end, you may see a little note down at the bottom that says something like: “Click here to view all” or “Click here to continue.” Press that and you will see what you are missing that has been cut-off!

If you aren’t able to make it to in-person worship on Sundays, you can watch it online “live” at 10:15 am or you can watch the “recorded” version anytime that is convenient for you by clicking on the box below. We generally start showing announcement slides at 10:05 as people are coming into the sanctuary and then the actual worship service starts at 10:15.

Blessings as you watch and participate. Be sure to share the link for live or recorded versions of our service with your friends and family, so they can join you in worship!

Life & Faith Lesson

Rev Nancy Mayeux

“Are You There, God?”

You have often heard me preach or pray about how God never leaves our side - not even for a moment, and is especially with us during difficult times in our life journeys. Where do you suppose I have found this assurance? What can you read or explore that might help you have the same comfort and assurance that I have found during both tough times and good times. Of course, the Scripture for this Sunday is a good source of comfort: The 23rd Psalm. Let’s explore where else you might go for that peace and comfort of knowing God goes with us, wherever we go, every minute of every day. God never stops loving us, no matter what we’ve done or how many times we reject, forget, or turn our backs on God. That’s a pretty special thing to “know” and “believe” with all your heart. Come do some exploring with us this Sunday morning, either in-person, or online live-streamed or recorded.

Scripture: Psalm 23

All COVID Protocols Now Optional at FUMC

Unless there is a strong uptick in COVID numbers in our area, we have made all protocols optional for now. Masks are optional, but there is a “Comfort Zone” in the back, East section of sanctuary seating, where masks are required (some people need a space like this).  Please try to social distance indoors in our sanctuary, and stagger your departure so everyone does not bunch up in the aisles as you are exiting. Hugs and handshakes are ok if you are comfortable doing so. Please try to save your congregating and chatting for outdoors, where it is safer.

Masks are now optional for Bible studies, meal packing and business meetings at the church. Thank you for your wonderful patience and cooperation during these last couple of difficult years. You have shown great love to your neighbors here at FUMC. Please help us to continue loving our neighbors.

Children’s Sunday School Resumes This Sunday

This Sunday, we are relaunching our children’s Sunday School. Please welcome back Margie Veratti, as our Sunday School Teacher during Sunday worship. She is also presently our VPK Assistant and Aftercare Teacher, being promoted to our Two-Year Class teacher in our preschool. Children who wish to participate will come into the sanctuary with their families and after the Children’s Moment with the Pastor, they will be led by Ms. Verrati to the Children’s Library right behind the sanctuary and next door to the VPK classroom for Sunday School. Parents will receive a registration card when they come into worship, which they should fill out and send with their child when the child leaves the sanctuary. Parents must remain at church until their child is picked up.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!

Altar Flower Ministry

Every week, you have the opportunity to purchase Sunday worship altar flowers and dedicate them to the memory of someone who was special to you or to honor someone who presently needs to be recognized! The cost is $40. The following dates are open: May 21 and beyond.  Purchase and dedication can be arranged by sending an email to Jaimie Dandridge at Admin@fumcnaples.org. Then you can either pick up your flowers after church or donate them for us to take to organizations in our community, bringing a ray of sunshine to workers and volunteers.

New Flower Ministry Coordinator Needed!

We are in great need of a new Flower Ministry Coordinator. Do you want to make a difference? This is a really fun ministry where you can encourage people and promote our church at the same time! It’s easy and we’ll show you how. Just choose local organizations that could use some recognition, appreciation, prayer and encouragement. Whenever our altar flowers are donated by the person dedicating them that week, you deliver the flowers to the organization. You will be blessed by their surprise and joy, when they receive the flowers and our note of appreciation. Please pray about it and let me know if you are interested, contact me at the church phone or at my email: pastor@fumcnaples.org

United Women in Faith

Had a Great Meeting

Our local chapter of United Women in Faith (previously United Methodist Women) had a great meeting last week. We are hoping you will join them at the next monthly meeting in early June. Gatherings are open to all women of the church. Thanks to Susanne Edson for providing the photos.

Congratulations to Rev. Vanessa Fletcher

Congrats to Vanessa Fletcher who was ordained last week by the Federation of Christian Ministries, an organization with focus on chaplaincy. A number of us watched the ceremony online. Vanessa will finish her residency as a hospital chaplain at Emory in Atlanta in June. After that, she will be returning to Naples to start her new job as the staff chaplain at NCH! We can’t wait to see her again.

Last Week's Worship Service

We’ve Packed 215,000 Meals!

Help Feed Hungry People in our Community

Thank you for helping to feed hungry families. Food insecurity has been a major challenge for families throughout the pandemic, and especially now, with food prices soaring. So far, in a little under 17 months, we have packed 215,000 meals for families in need! Help us be Jesus’ hands and feet in the world and show the love of Christ to others by participating:

  1. Bring in food or financial contributions earmarked for “Food Ministry” and we will deliver to either Grace Place or St. Matthew’s House for their food pantries.
  2. Volunteer to come help pack food for 1.5 hours on an upcoming packing day. To sign up, contact Wendy McKee, our food-packing coordinator, at WendyMckee3@gmail.com. She will schedule you. It’s lots of fun!

Need to Reach Us? Here’s How!

We are available to you! Our church office is open Monday-Thursday, 9:00am to 2:00pm.  Food can be dropped off during office hours or on Sundays when you come to worship. The church phone will be answered during office hours. For pastoral emergencies, when the office is closed, just call the office and you will hear the Pastor’s personal cell number listed on the message you hear. The pastor is off on Mondays, as her Sabbath day, but will respond to pastoral emergencies.

Please Pray!

Please continue to pray for the people of Ukraine as they battle to keep their country and deal with loss of lie and so many displaced. Also pray for travel mercies for our many seasonal attenders who are heading north. Please keep our faith family in prayer (see list below), as there are many important needs in our congregation. Lastly, remember to thank God for your blessings!

Also, if you have a prayer request, you can email it to me directly by responding to this Eblast (just press “reply” and it comes to me). You can also fill out a blue prayer card from the pews on Sunday. Just let me know if you want it public (person’s name and no other details) or if you would like private prayer from me.
