From the Head of School:

Dear Goshen families,

Whenever anyone asks me what I love most about my job, I have a hard time deciding. Is it the children, whose sense of wonder and joy can turn any frown upside down? Is it the staff, whom I admire and love and look forward to seeing every day? Is it the parents, whose devotion to the school helps make this community feel full and alive even in the midst of a pandemic? The short answer is: yes to all of the above!

I do want to take a moment to give a special shout out to our parents. I speak on behalf of all the teachers and staff when I say how grateful we are for all that you do for our school. We thank you for your patience during this unusual year, for entrusting us with the care and learning of your children, for the care and devotion you have for this amazing place. We really do have the best parents in the world!

Recently I wrote about the benefits of an outdoor education. I wanted to share a recent article from the New York Times that looks at four outdoor learning programs that have sprung up during the pandemic. I am thrilled to say that many of the things we do here each day – incorporating the natural world in our lessons, reimagining our outdoor spaces and modeling flexibility for our young learners – are all highlighted in this story. I love the way our school is innovating!

Finally, we will miss our traditional Halloween parades this year, with all the crowds and elaborate costumes. But we are thrilled to be celebrating Goshen-style! Each class is doing something a little bit different, getting creative and making their own hats, shirts and masks. They will have mini parades for their friends here at school (socially distant, of course) and afterward, we will share a video for all parents to see!

Happy Halloween to all!

In Friendship,
Tr. Mimi
