Message from the Head of School

Dear Goshen friends and families,

This morning, the children attended their first Meeting for Worship. Those who have attended Quaker Meeting would agree: this is not your typical Meeting for Worship. It's Meeting for Worship for Preschool!

I started by telling the children to think of Meeting as circle time, only with all of Goshen's friends, and with more relaxation than learning. Next, the children shared what the word peace means to them. Some said peace was sharing toys with friends, others said it was being with family. Some said peace was being alone, or lying in the grass. In short: they get it! Even at this tender age, the children grasp that peace can be something you give and receive from people you love, but it can also be something we achieve all on our own.

After reading Susan Verde's "I Am Peace," we brought down the silence (ask your child if she remembers how we do this in Meeting!), then took slow, deep breaths for....a minute or two! Hopefully, it's just enough to remind the children that slowing down and living "in the moment" can make us all feel a little bit better.

Wishing everyone a happy week!

In peace,
Tr. Mimi
