High Performance Brain Training

The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) invites you to join a program that provides professional and graduate students with state of the art information about high performance brain functioning.

Designing a Course Workshop for TAs

The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) and the Graduate School’s Office of Graduate Student Professional Enhancement (GSPE) are offering a fall series of teaching and learning workshops for graduate teaching assistants. The offerings provide an opportunity to discuss teaching practices and connect with TAs across colleges and departments.

Designing your own course can seem like a daunting task. In this workshop, TAs will discuss the importance of thoughtful course design and discover methods of designing a course that centers on student learning.

DEI Connect Conference at App State:

Call for Proposals

Appalachian State University is pleased to announce the fall DEI Connect research symposium on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). DEI Connect will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at App State's campus in Boone, North Carolina. DEI Connect will consist of DEI-related research presentations, a skills roundtable and networking. Registration is free and includes lunch.

Chicagoland Diverse STEM Postdoc Recruitment Initiative

Northwestern University, the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), and the University of Chicago (UChicago) are excited to announce that applications are now open for the second annual Chicagoland Diverse STEM Postdoc Recruitment Initiative! 

About the Initiative

The initiative has two components: professional development programming, and informational interviews. The programming will be held virtually on October 19–20, 2023, while the interviews (also virtual) will take place between October 19 – November 3. The programming includes: 

1. Overviews of the postdoc programs at Northwestern, UIC, and UChicago
2. Demystifying the Postdoc Search: From Finding a Position to Negotiating an Offer
3. Effective Interviewing
4. Making the Most of Your Postdoc Experience
5. And more!

Participants will be matched with faculty volunteers at each institution for informational interviews. Prospective postdoc participants will be responsible for scheduling virtual informational interviews with their faculty partners once they receive their match information in early October. Several faculty from a range of disciplines are participating!

Reminders

Course Repeatability

It is important to be familiar with the repeatability limits of courses.

If a student exceeds the limit, the Registrar’s Office will not assign academic credit to the course. The Graduate School cannot support petitions for exceptions to this policy.



For Graduating Master (Plan A & Plan B) and Specialist Students: Degree Audit

Conducting a degree audit is critically important during the semester you intend to graduate. Checking at the start of the semester gives you a view of the requirements you have satisfied and those that are remaining.

If you discover a course that was wrongly assigned to a requirement, or not credited, you should bring this to the attention of your DGS (Director of Graduate Studies) or your program advisor. The program should contact the student affairs officer for the area/ discipline well in advance of the final examination to resolve. If there are requirements that have not been met, then you and your program will need to decide it there are substitutions that will fulfill that requirement.

Important Upcoming Date for Doctoral Students Planning Fall 2023 Defense/Final Examination

September 20, 2023, is the last day doctoral candidates for a December 2023 degree can submit a Notification of Intent to schedule a final examination in The Graduate School.

Additionally, UK Research's Proposal Development Office is a great resource to discover extramural research funding and award opportunities.
