SPAC Update
JLNS is a proud member of the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC), with two delegates: Margaret Sluyk, senior delegate, and Katie Bivin, junior delegate. Read more about SPAC on our website here.
With an important election coming up in a little over two months, it is important that everyone be informed and educated about the election process.
One piece of the election are ballot measures. A
ballot measure can be placed on the ballot by either the California State Legislature or through a petition signed by registered voters. If passed, ballot measures can alter one or more of the articles of the Constitution of California, one or more of the 29 California Codes or another law in the California Statues by clarifying current or adding statutes or removing current statutes. Measures can sometimes get confusing and hard to understand.
At our recent virtual SPAC Conference we heard about an event called Bubbles & Ballots that we would love to share with the League in October. It will be a fun and educational event where you can choose your favorite bubbles and learn about what each ballot measure means.
Date and zoom link coming soon!
In addition, a great website to get more information before the November election is ballotpedia.org. Let's show our collective voices and vote!
If you have any questions or would like more information on SPAC feel free to email SPAC@jlns.org.
