Join the Great California Shakeout
On October 20th, millions of people will participate in the largest earthquake drill ever: ShakeOut! Why? Earthquakes can happen anywhere you work, live, or travel, which is why everyone should know how to protect themselves should an earthquake occur.
Register to practice and improve your level of earthquake safety. You will receive information on how to prepare for earthquakes, what actions to take during and after the shaking, and other ShakeOut news and updates.

211 Care Coordination for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS)
When the weather turns windy and risks a fire in your area, a potential PSPS may occur. If you or a loved one rely on medical equipment that requires electricity and live in a high-fire-risk area, you may qualify for 211’s Care Coordination during a PSPS event. This may include battery/generator rebate programs, shelter accommodations, and transportation services.
To determine if you are eligible for this program, please dial 2-1-1 or text “PSPS” to 211-211.

Happy 30th to Kick It California
Kick It California started in 1992 as the California Smokers' Helpline. For over three decades, they've helped more than a million Californians quit tobacco.
It's a free program that helps people kick smoking, vaping, and smokeless tobacco with the help of proven, science-based strategies. When you sign up, you'll be connected to a Quit Coach who will work with you to craft a personal Quit Plan.
Quitting isn't easy, but you don't have to do it alone. Learn how to get your Quit Plan and an extra $20 by dialing 2-1-1.

New Service: Housing Community Resource Specialist (HCRS) Line
211 Alameda County is excited to announce the launch of our new Housing Community Resource Specialist (HCRS) phone line! The HCRS program is a one-year pilot program generously funded by Health Leads that aims to provide additional support for advanced housing-related needs from 211 callers. These needs could include preventing eviction, resolving tenant-landlord disputes, unsafe living conditions, or callers facing harassment or discrimination.
To help with this new initiative, we are thrilled to welcome three new Housing Community Resources Specialists: Amanda, Haley, and Rayne, to the team! They will be on the lines to assist callers needing appropriate housing resources and advocate for those who may be at risk of losing housing.
The HCRS line is available Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you or someone you know needs help navigating housing issues, please dial 2-1-1 to be connected to the HCRS team.

Senior Program Manager (Housing Portal): Eden I&R will administer the Alameda County Housing Portal in partnership with Exygy, the Housing Portal software vendor. You will help Eden I&R operate strategically in a more external facing role-including maintaining relationships with stakeholders (such as property managers and housing developers), Alameda County Housing and Community Development staff, and the software vendor. Transportation Survey for City of Alameda Residents
211 Alameda County is proud to partner with the City of Alameda as one of their affordable transportation options for residents who are older or have physical or cognitive challenges, and we are thankful to be featured in their recent press release promoting their annual transportation survey.
Each year, the City asks senior residents or those who live with disabilities if its transportation programs are meeting people’s needs. The online survey is available here until Monday, November 7th. Hard copies are available at all Alameda libraries or call 510-747-7513 to request a copy.

Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California Conference
Eden I&R's Housing team recently attended the 2022 Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California Conference in San Francisco to discuss affordable housing and how it will solve housing inequality by growing our vision together. There were many great speakers, and our team was thrilled to connect with so many wonderful partners. We even got to say hello to Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf!

A man in Hayward called seeking re-entry services and detox resources. 211 staff referred him to Roots Community Health Measures for re-entry services. To help with detoxification, staff referred him to Horizon Services, Humanistic Alternatives to Addictions Research and Treatment Outpatient Center, Oakland and Berkeley’s Addiction Treatment Services.

AHIP (AIDS Housing Information Project) | |
|
AHIP (AIDS Housing Information Project) offers housing and human services resource referrals to People Living with HIV/AIDS via a designated phone line and through one-on-one, in-person assistance at clinics and AIDS Service Organizations.
Last month, AHIP completed 123 calls, 6 client meetings and provided 528 housing referrals and 120 referrals to services. AHIP completed 6 site visits and assisted 3 clients with Coordinated Entry System navigation and document readiness. Year to date, AHIP has provided assistance to 218 unduplicated clients.

Partner Spotlight - Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and can affect anyone regardless of age,
socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. October was first declared National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989, and since then, it has been a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for them.
The devastating consequences of domestic violence can cross generations and last a lifetime. An average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute. This equates to more than 10 million people being abused annually. To support those who need help, anyone can call 211 anytime and connect to life-saving resources.
