Chakana Mendoza Estate Red 2012 " If this were a Napa Valley or Bordeaux red, it would undoubtedly be priced between $150.00-200.00." The 2012 Estate Red is a blend of 60% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Shiraz aged 10 months in 100% new French oak. This killer red comes from Chakana-s two well-placed vineyards in southern Mendoza, Agrelo and Alta Mira. Aromas of flowers, blackberries, camphor, forest floor and subtle new oak emerge from this full-bodied, textured, opulent blockbuster. Extremely pure and rich, this bargain-priced wine should drink well for 6-10+ years. - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Issue #208, August 2013), 95 pts

Maipe/Chakana Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 "Made from 100% hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, two-thirds of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve spent 12 months in French oak and one-third in concrete. It is a classic Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon from alluvial soils. Maipe owns significant acreage in two main vineyards, Agrelo and Alta Mira. Classic notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood and vanillin are accompanied by a wine with a beautiful, full-bodied texture, deep, rich, concentrated flavors and a long finish. For $15.00, it is impossible to find a Cabernet Sauvignon this good from anywhere else in the world.
Maipe is one of my favorite value selections from Fran Kysela as the wines are exceptionally well-made, and sell for a song."

Maipe/Chakana Reserve Malbec 2012 "The same can be said for the 2012 Malbec Reserve, a 100% hand-harvested Malbec from the estate's finest vineyard parcels. Aged 12 months in French oak, it possesses a softer style than the Cabernet Sauvignon with more minerality as well as lots of blackberry, white chocolate, incense and graphite characteristics. Deep ruby/purple-hued, rich and full-bodied, it is a full-throttle, stunning Malbec to drink over the next 4-5 years.
Maipe is one of my favorite value selections from Fran Kysela as the wines are exceptionally well-made, and sell for a song."

O Fournier Urban Uco Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Tanzer 90 Points Green-tinged straw. Energetic aromas of lime, grapefruit, pear and tarragon are underscored by dusty minerals. Suave, gently sweet citrus flavors display good concentration and are firmed by a bitter note of quinine. This wine's cut and finishing clarity are impressive.

Semillon's origins are quite mysterious, it first having popped up in Australia actually. It can be used to make sweet and dry white wines and has been blended often with both Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to make finer reserve white wines.
This is the "other wine" from Ricardo Santos, one of the icons of wine making in Argentina, up there with the likes of Roberto de la Mota and Carmelo Patti. Santos was one of the original owners of the Norton winery and the son of the founder. He was proclaimed the "first defender of Malbec" in Argentina by La Nacion newspaper.
It is nice to fine a white wine in Argentina. Made from 70 year old Semillon vines, and the only white wine that Ricardo Santos makes, it is clear that focus, energy and determination go into making this delightful product. There is a light fragrance of minerals and white flowers with hints of tropical fruit. Round and soft in the mouth with a waxy, unctuous texture and light herbal, almond, and melon flavors. A very nicely balanced wine of considerable charm. Especially recommended for those looking for something different. and special in a white wine at a very accessible price.
It would pair well with any sort of fish, salad and perhaps even Asian food and stands alone quite nicely as well. For those looking for a break from Argentine Torrontes this is highly recommendable
