The Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET) launches an introductory RETScreen® Expert course course
CIET
CIET recently delivered the first Introduction to RETScreen® Expert course, and has received a very positive response from participants. The 1-day course is delivered by an instructing duo, with Stephen Dixon leading the course presentations, and Adam Dixon providing one-on-one coaching and troubleshooting to help participants move along in RETScreen® Expert. The course is aimed at those with little to no previous experience with the RETScreen® Expert software who are finding themselves involved in the analysis or management of energy use or GHG emissions in buildings and facilities.

Is modular construction the way forward?
HBM
First Community Housing and SERA Architects announced a partnership last year to build a 66-unit housing project in Morgan Hill, California, using modular construction techniques, with 100% of the units to be used as affordable housing. This project offers a chance to explore healthier material solutions that leverage the technologies and standardized processes that are characteristic, or at least available to, the modular construction industry. Perhaps a modular construction approach might be a future possibility given the rapidly dwindling ICU capacities during a nationwide health emergency.

How to Avoid Generator Failure in Hospitals
Healthcare Facilities Today
In hospitals and other critical facilities, standby engine generators (code-required emergency and optional) are normally idle and need to quickly and reliably start when utility power fails for more than a few seconds. And they need to run for the duration of the utility outage, and sometimes longer. However, there are scenarios when generators can fail. Read the full article to learn about the common failure modes and ways to avoid them.

NRCan seeks recipients for up to 50 per cent funding for EV charging infrastructure
Electric Autonomy
Natural Resource Canada (NRCan) has launched the newest phase of its zero emission vehicle infrastructure program (ZEVIP), with proposal submissions due by June 22, 2021. The ZEVIP is a five-year federal program, ending in 2024, that exists to “address the lack of charging and refuelling stations in Canada; one of the key barriers to ZEV adoption,” according to NRCan. As such, it is an integral part of the federal government’s plans to build more extensive EV charging infrastructure across Canada. There is a wide range of entities eligible for ZEVIP, including academic institutions, companies registered both in Canada and abroad, as well as provincial, territorial, regional or municipal governments. Electric Autonomy launches handy EV tracker
Electric Autonomy
Canada’s transition to electric vehicles depends on many factors, but none rank higher than choice for buyers — both in terms of model selection and vehicle availability. Today, the lineup of EVs available to Canadian buyers is growing rapidly. Mainstream legacy automakers, early EV pioneers and emerging startups are rolling out emissions-free electric vehicles in every category. Some traditional carmakers have committed to a complete changeover to battery electric in the coming years. This EV tracker is Electric Autonomy's running tally of manufacturers’ battery electric car and light-duty truck model commitments, launches and planned dates of arrival in the Canadian market. Be sure to check back often for the most up-to-date information.

Environmental services (EVS) competency model
AHE
This is the first interactive competency model tool for health care environmental services professionals, including technicians, supervisors, managers and directors, and may be used to create job descriptions, assess performance and guide professional development; self-assess skill levels and training needs and set improvement goals; and determine staff training needs. Guidelines were developed for acute care hospitals, but may be used in a variety of health care settings as most of the core competencies have broad applicability.

Be sure to explore the infection control training for front line health care workers: Project Firstline
AHE
Project Firstline is a CDC national training collaborative offering timely infection control training to front line health care workers and the public health workforce in the fight against infectious disease threats. As a key partner in this initiative, the American Hospital Association (AHA) is helping bring this critical training opportunity to the health care field and champion sound decision-making and positive behaviours in a time of crisis.
