Webinar: Reuse and Repurpose - Capturing Existing Asset Value
New is not always better. While it may seem a natural step, the wholesale replacement of existing equipment is not always the smartest solution. Not only can it be wasteful and disruptive to install entirely new equipment, but these 1:1 replacements miss the opportunity to implement an integrated solution based on good design.
Using examples from multiple sectors, the panelists will discuss results achieved by projects that used the whole-building approach. These projects all reused existing assets to harness their value, ensuring a higher quality of outcomes than if they had simply replaced equipment.

Investing in the workplace growing more pivotal
REMI Network
The workplace has always been a critical component of the ecosystem of any business, and even more so today. Challenges during the pandemic have created a unique opportunity to rethink the workplace—putting people, health and innovation first. Such knowledge can be a catalyst to proactively examine the path forward and the unique impacts on different organisations. Workplaces are an investment in the business, and an organisation should expect a return. But in order to do that, companies need to understand how having their people together in a specific physical space impacts their business—their ability to deliver services or products, to create new knowledge, to mentor their people and to grow and develop as a company.

AHE, ScienceDirect
This new study explored nurses’ and midwives’ knowledge and experiences of infection prevention and control (IPC) processes and cleaning, and perceptions about workplace risk-management during COVID-19. As a result, four major themes were identified: Striving towards environmental cleanliness; Knowledge and learning feed good practice; There's always doubt in the back of your mind; and COVID has cracked it wide open. These articulate the nurses’ and midwives’ experiences and knowledge of IPC, particularly during COVID-19. Read the full study to learn more.

Ontario making it easier to report polluters
Waste & Recycling
The Ontario government is launching a new website to allow the public to report incidents of pollution in real-time from a smartphone. The public can upload photos and videos so staff can respond quickly. Members of the public can visit ontario.ca/reportpollution and fill out a simple form to report immediately. Ontario wants people to report pollution (e.g. solvents, oil, fuels or chemicals) on land, in the water or air; industrial or commercial noise pollution; waste being dumped into the natural environment; or improper disposal of commercial waste.

With more models coming, incentives seen as key to boosting Canada’s medium- and heavy-duty electric truck transition
Electric Autonomy
While more electric truck manufacturers are starting to roll out heavy-duty vehicles catering to commercial fleets' needs, purchase incentive programs for those vehicles from Canadian governments are scarce. The process remains a long haul for Canadian commercial fleet managers looking to transition from combustion to electric rigs. These incentives are key to transforming current emergency fleets to fully electric ones.

Canada’s used EV marketplace signalling growth and courting investment
Electric Autonomy
Toronto-based used EV dealership Electric Vehicle Network (EV Network) uses a contactless online-based system that offers a long rental period for customers to decide on a purchase. While its method may be unique in the industry, the used dealership’s existence — and latest successful round of financing — underscores the interest now growing up around used EVs for both sellers and buyers in Canada. This growing public interest could translate to more EVs on hospital parking lots!
