Capital grant application is now available


Eligible organisations in Ontario can apply for a Capital grant to meet a range of needs and build healthy and vibrant communities. Whether it’s purchasing equipment or completing renovations, retrofits or repairs, Capital grants help improve community facilities and spaces.


Organisations can request funding for multiple capital improvements within one facility, e.g., touchless entry and widening of doorways at local community centre, or they can request funding for the same capital improvements at multiple facilities, e.g., HVAC retrofits at 3 municipal arenas.


Deadline: June 14th, 2023

Calgary hospitals see increase in cough, smoke-related complaints as wildfires burn

Calgary remains blanketed in smoke as wildfires continue in Alberta — something Alberta Health Services said has caused an increased number of emergency department visits. 


This comes as intense wildfires continue to burn across the province, forcing thousands of Albertans from their homes and leaving communities across the province cloaked in smoke and as Calgary's Air Quality Health Index reaches "very high risk" status.

Heat wave and black out would hospitalized half of Phoenix residents

Half of Phoenix residents would need emergency medical attention if a multi-day blackout were to coincide with a heat wave, a new study revealed.


Heat waves are deadly even when people have access to air conditioning. Combine extreme temperatures with a blackout and the heat-related death rate would spike by 700%, according to the report published this month in Environmental Science & Technology.

Protecting children's health: Asthma and climate change

Children are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Their lungs are developing, making children with asthma especially susceptible to temperature extremes, variations in precipitation, poor air quality, and changes in pollen and flora.


Nurses must support caregivers and children to link climate change to asthma care; be involved in health education; climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and policies; and develop the evidence to address climate change and asthma strategies.

Trinity Health Michigan's hospital farms assist food insecure communities

Trinity Health Michigan is on a mission to build healthier communities, and they're starting from the ground up. The hospital group has two farms where they grow produce for patients and families.


One farm is located at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac. They work to provide fresh produce to food-insecure communities. The staff at The Farm say they're starting to see more and more families sign up since the end of pandemic emergency benefits.

NRCan awards $5.9 million to 28 organisations for ZEV awareness projects, launches new ZEV info hub

Natural Resources Canada is investing $5.9 million to support 28 organisations undertaking zero-emission awareness projects across the country. The money comes from the latest round of Zero-Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative (ZEVAI) funding.


The government is also launching a new Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Online Hub. The aim is to consolidate ZEV-related information that, until now, has been spread across various government websites.

Aviva Canada Announces Seven Ontario Communities to Receive Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Aviva Canada is pleased to announce the first seven communities that will receive Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations through its Charged for Change program in partnership with Earth Day Canada.


Charged for Change is an initiative that aims to bring chargers to under-served communities that lack EV infrastructure. Through this $3M partnership communities can apply for funding to receive charging stations featuring between six and ten Level 2 electric vehicle chargers.

Saskatoon Transit lands e-bus transition funding, joins growing list of Canadian cities switching to electric fleets

Electric Autonomy

Saskatoon Transit is moving to electrify its bus fleet with a joint $420,000 investment from the federal and municipal governments.



The money will be used to create a five-phase strategy under guidance from the Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC) as the city awaits its first two electric buses set to arrive in 2024.
