The Green Is Out

This weekend the green comes out.
Like many Christian churches, the Episcopal Church embraces liturgical colors – colors that signify particular church seasons – and we have now entered the “Season After Pentecost,” also known as the “Long Green Season.” For the next five months or so, expect to see green.
Those who have spent time in liturgical churches may hardly notice this change, but those who are new may wonder why we do such things, and what they mean. Well, the short answer is that changing colors points to a shift in our spiritual focus. Like the Sanctus Bell, which is struck at special moments in the Eucharist to call our attention to certain holy actions, the change in color is meant to help us notice something new is happening.
But why green?
Well, the color hints at growth and life. Green is out in the long months when we hear of the call of the disciples and their growth in the way of Jesus, so it makes a kind of symbolic sense to adorn the church in the color of flourishing nature. Second Half Summer Formation
Beginning this Sunday June 11 and continuing through August 13, Second Half will meet during the Formation Hour on Sundays at 10:15am for fellowship and to discuss the lessons of the week. Outreach Helps Families
The Outreach committee is joining with Vacation Bible School participants to gather items for Vogel Alcove – a Dallas organization focused on helping families dealing with homelessness. We are looking for toddler-sized summer clothing and individual-sized, no-cook food for children, including canned meats with pull tops, individual fruit servings, granola bars, juice boxes, and other non-perishable items. Pick up a list at the outreach table in the Tower Cloister. See the Outreach Facebook page for more details.

Outreach Grant Requests
The 2023 Outreach Grant request process is open. In 2022 we distributed $15,000 in funds to worthy non-profits that provide services for disadvantaged children and teenagers, abused women, the homeless, and summer camps. To be considered, each agency must submit a Grant Request stating its mission and what specific need would be helped by our donation. The Grant Committee carefully reviews each application to determine who will receive our parish's money. If you have a non-profit that you would like to be considered for a grant in 2023, please contact Darla Hodge .

Still Time to Register for
Our Juneteenth Celebration
Join us for our Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 17, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, in Roper Hall. We will welcome Bishop Alex D. Byrd and Pastor Marvin T. Roberts of Living Faith Covenant Church (LFCC) in Dallas, an LGBTQ-affirming church that is part of The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries. Our meal will be catered by Off the Bone Barbecue.
Please register by June 11 using the button below. There is a suggested donation of $10 per individual or $15 per family. Proceeds will benefit the LFCC food pantry or ministry of their choice.

SWANS Expand Gatherings
Single Women Alone Network or SWANS has added an additional meeting time to better accommodate their participant's schedules. In addition to their normal meeting at 12:00noon each Third Thursday in the Parlor they have added 4:00pm meeting on each Third Saturday. If you are a Single Woman Living Alone who would enjoy the camaraderie and support this group provides, join them Thursday, June 15 at 12:00noon or Saturday, June 17 at 4:00pm.

AAM Meets in Dallas
The musicians of the Episcopal churches in Dallas are hosting the annual conference of our professional organization, the Association of Anglican Musicians (AAM), this coming week from Sunday, June 11, through Thursday, June 15. The last time the conference was held in North Texas was in 1985, when Dallas and Fort Worth combined forces to present a week of activities centered on The Hymnal 1982 which was to be released that fall.
Transfiguration will host the Closing Eucharist of the conference this Thursday, June 15, at 4:30pm. Parishioners are invited to join the 250 registrants for this festival liturgy commemorating Evelyn Underhill, English mystic and poet who died in 1941. Fr. Casey will be the preacher, Mtr. Rebecca, the presider, and Fr. Ted will assist in all things sung. The full Transfiguration Choir will be joined by Imperial Brass and Timpani with Stefan Engels at the organ, all under the direction of Joel Martinson. Arrive early to get a seat and to hear the prelude which will begin at 4:15pm.

Fish Fry & Silent Auction Success! | |

The results are in and the Episcopal Men's Fellowship Silent Auction and Fish Fry was a resounding success! With over 300 attending, EMF raised over $60,000 to fund charitable and outreach opportunities. Many thanks to all who worked to make this a success and to all who attended and placed bids on merchandise.
EMF also announces the re-election of current board members and the addition of two new members: Sergio Garcia and Xin-Min Zhang. The board met on June 1 and elected officers for a two year term beginning July 1. The new officers will be:

Disciples Wrap-up Year Three | | |

Yes, Virginia, Episcopalians really do study the Bible! Three years ago, the Disciples Bible Study program launched at Transfiguration. Due to Covid, the class was held on Zoom out of necessity. That necessity transformed into an opportunity enabling many who would not have been able to drive to the church for a 90-minute evening class each week. Last Thursday evening, 25 people left their Zoom boxes and gathered in person to closeout the Third Year of our study which focused on the Hebrew Prophets and the Letters of Paul. We gathered for Eucharist and a shared meal. We celebrated the community we forged through study, exploration, and prayer. If you would like to delve deeper into your experience of the Bible, know that you can join the Disciple's study without prior participation. Year 4 will start in September.

VBS Closing Celebration Sunday
This Sunday morning, June 11, we invite everyone to join us in Roper Hall for our VBS closing celebration. Come and find out a little about what we learned in VBS this past week. Watch the kiddos perform their songs and dances and enjoy a slide show sharing the activities that they enjoyed.
We will have a cake reception and close out our outreach project for Vogel Alcove. We hope you will help us celebrate!

Lake Day Saturday July 9
Figs with Kids Lake day will be Saturday, July 9 from 12noon to 6:00pm. Figs With Kids will be heading to the lake on this new date and will be hosted by the Robb family. More details to come. Follow Figs With Kids on Facebook to keep up with all that's happening this summer.
