GSU Makes the Top Ten in the World's Largest Electricity and Water Reduction Competition for Higher Education!

The Campus Conservation Nationals (CCN), founded by the Center for Green Schools and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in partnership with Lucid, the Alliance to Save Energy, and the National Wildlife Federation is the largest electricity reduction competition for colleges and universities in the world. Georgia State University made the top ten in the competition saving over 870,575 kWh, which equates to $69,646 in savings! We beat our campus goal to reduce 10% of electricity usage during the three-week competition, yay! Congratulations Georgia State Panthers and the organizers of our CCN campaign, our "Panther Power Down" team in making a conscious effort to be more sustainable on campus!

The CCN competition saved 125 colleges nationwide over $290,000 in electricity and water in just three weeks! The GSU Office of Sustainability and Green Team has been working hard to help our students, faculty, and staff become more aware of electricity and water consumption, and it is really showing. The school has reduced its consumption up to 29.3% in the University Center, the Petite Science Center, Piedmont North B, and more. No wonder we made the top ten! We love it when our entire campus is active in working with the Office of Sustainability!
