Canada Soccer Masters National Championships

Canada Soccer held their first ever Masters National Championships October 2-5, 2025 in Winnipeg, MB where Saskatchewan was represented by Saskatoon YXE FC in both the Men's and Women's divisions.

The YXE FC Men cruised through the round robin portion of the tournament defeating Nova Scotia representative City of Lakes Blue Lobster FC 5-1, Quebec representative CS Montreal Centre 2-0, and Ontario representative Vaughan Sons of Carmine Isaaco FC 3-1 to punch their ticket directly to the finals.

Saskatoon YXE FC would match up against Edmonton Scottish SC in the final defeating them 1:0 to take home the Gold medal. Jordan Schidlowsky earned tournament MVP honours for Saskatoon YXE FC. 

Of note, Gareau, Hembroff, Huyghebaert and Schidlowsky were all part of the first-ever national champions from Saskatchewan back in 2011. The quartet helped Saskatoon HUSA Alumni lift the Challenge Trophy after they won 2:0 over Surrey ICST Pegasus at the 2011 National Championships. 

The YXE FC Women were in tough in their pool facing off against Ontario, Alberta and Quebec. Their first action would come against the eventual Bronze medalists Ontario representative Burlington SC where they would fall 8-2, things would not get easier for the Women as their next match came against the eventual National Champions Alberta representative Calgary Blizzard FC who defeated them 5-1, In their final match YXE would take on Quebec representative Montréal City FC Braves d'Ahuntsic losing 4-0.

Canada Soccer U15 Cup National Championships

Canada Soccer held their annual U15 Cup National Championships October 8-13, 2025 in Charlottetown, PEI where Saskatchewan was represented by the Saskatoon Alliance in both the Boys and Girls divisions.

The Saskatoon Alliance U15 Girls kicked off their U15 Cup tournament against New Brunswick representative Moncton Codiac where they made a late push losing 3-2. In the girls second match they met PEI representative PEI FC Charlottetown playing to a 2-2 tie. The match would then go to penalty kicks where Alliance defeated PEI FC 3-0 to move on to the quarterfinals. In the Quarterfinals Alliance took on Ontario representative Mount Hamilton United SC playing to a 0-0 draw after regulation. Alliance scored on four of their penalties but it wasnt enough as Ontario defeated them 5-4 on penalties. Saskatoon Alliance would wrap up their tournament with a game against Alberta representative Edmonton Selects FC defeationg them 2-0 to finish in 7th place.

The U15 Boys kicked off their tournament with a match against New Brunswick representative Moncton Codiac recording a 2-0 victory. In their second game the boys met Ontario representative Milton Magic who had a strong outing defeating Saskatoon Alliance 4-0. Despite the loss the boys qualified for the quarterfinals where they met Quebec representative Saguenay Lac St-Jean losing a tight contest 1-0. The boys finished off their U15 Cup with a tight match against PEI representative PEI FC Charlottetown losing 1-0 and finishing in 6th place.

Canada Soccer U17 Cup National Championships

While the U15 Cup was taking place in Charlottetown Canada Soccer also held their annual U17 Cup National Championships October 8-13, 2025 in Kamloops, BC where Saskatchewan was represented by the U17 Girls FC Regina Bluestars and U17 Boys Saskatoon Alliance.

FC Regina kicked off their U17 Cup against a tough Newfoundland representative Paradise SC with a 5-2 loss. FC Regina then faced Alberta representative Edmonton BTB SC losing a tight contest 3-2. The girls then matched up with Alberta Representative St. Albert Impact FC in another tight contest losing 3-2. FC Regina would wrap up their tournament against BC representative Lakehill FC Victoria taking home a 3-1 victory and finishing in 11th place.

The Saskatoon Alliance Boys opened their tournament with a tight battle against Nova Scotia representative Suburban FC Bedford falling 1-0. The boys were quick to recover winning their next match against New Brunswick representative Moncton Codiac 1-0 earning their way into the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals Saskatoon Alliance matched up with Manitoba representative Winnipeg South End United who they defeated 2-1 to move on to the semi finals where they would face Ontario representative Cherry Beach SC from Toronto. Saskatoon Alliance and Cherry Beach would play to a 3-3 draw before heading to penalty kicks where Saskatoon Alliance would score on all five of their attempts to defeat Cherry Hill 5-3 on penalties and punch their ticket to the National Championship where they would meet Nova Scotia representative Suburban FC Bedford in a rematch for the Gold medal.

Suburban FC would be first to find the back of the net in the Final placing a ball just under the crossbar in the 18th minute to give them the lead. Suburban FC would play with the 1 goal lead until the 70th minute when Saskatoon Alliance was awarded a penalty kick from the spot due to a hand ball in the box. Giorgio Artunduaga would make no mistake when taking the shot beating the Suburban FC keeper to knot the game at one going into the final minutes of the game. The game did not remain tied for long as in the 74th minute Suburban FC picked off a pass and made a pretty passing play to once again take the lead 2-1. Saskatoon Alliance put together a late push but were unable to knot the game at 2 and fall 2-1 to Suburban FC Bedford bringing home a Silver medal.

The Saskatchewan Soccer Association would like to congratulate all six National Championship representatives on incredible seasons and thank them for representing Saskatchewan with pride. Well done teams!

Policy Updates

On September 28th, 2025 the Saskatchewan Soccer Board of Directors approved changes to the following policies.

Section 1 – Introduction to the SSA  

Section 2 – Member Rights & Responsibilities 

Section 3 – Code of Conduct  

Changes in Sections 1 and 3 are purely grammatical and formatting related with no tangible changes.

In Section 2 the registration chart in Article 3.0 has been updated to reflect the expanded offerings of Adaptive Soccer. The Youth Reinstatement Application in Article 8.1 has been updated to align with changes from Canada Soccer. The Youth Reinstatement Application is only necessary in relation to eligibility for National Championships and is no longer required for local competitions. All other changes in Section 2 are grammatical/cosmetic. 

Bylaw Amendments

Saskatchewan Soccer's Board of Directors hosts an annual bylaw consultation with a goal to work collaboratively and seek consensus in preparation for the Annual General Meeting. 

Members that would like the board to consider potential bylaw amendments should submit any proposals via a completed Bylaw Amendment form, with rationale, to s.porter@sasksoccer.com  by Oct. 30, 2025. 

No proposed amendments are being put forward by the Saskatchewan Soccer Board of Directors this year.

Saskatchewan Referees at the Canada Soccer Masters National Championships

Four Saskatchewan referees were a part of the 2025 Masters National Championships (Winnipeg – October 2-5, 2025), receiving a total of 22 appointments. 

We are proud of their work ethic and professionalism throughout, culminating with their performance-based appointments on Finals Day. 

Alex McGreavey officiated as Assistant Referee 1 in the Women’s Bronze Medal Game. Vitalii Oliinichenko was appointed as the Referee for the Men’s Bronze Medal Game. Nicole Rapin (Referee) and Ella Kupser (Assistant Referee 1) officiated in the Women’s Gold Medal Game. 

We are thankful for the time and dedication required during the preparation stages in education sessions, practicals which ultimately translated in their overall performances. 

Thank you for your contributions to the game, we are immensely proud of you!

Male EXCEL Program Update

The Male EXCEL Program has continued progressing through its fall development phase. The boys completed their fitness testing during the week of October 6th, establishing key performance baselines across speed, agility, endurance, and strength.

Following this, they entered a two-week bootcamp phase during the weeks of October 13th and 20th, focused on building physical resilience, discipline, and team cohesion in preparation for the transition into full-time training starting October 27th.

With this next stage, the program will shift toward structured technical and tactical sessions, integrating video analysis and match preparation ahead of the SSA Prairie Series taking place November 9th–11th in Martensville and Saskatoon Soccer Centre. The event will serve as a key evaluation and competition opportunity for the group.

Shortly after, the players will begin the Alliance Indoor League on November 16th, ensuring consistent competitive exposure through the winter while continuing to develop decision-making, tactical framework, individual behaviours and intentions.  

Female EXCEL Program Update

The girls completed their fitness testing during the week of October 6th. They competed against themselves and pushed each other with impressive baseline results.

They now enter a two-week bootcamp phase October 14th to the 24th, with the objective of building physical strength and endurance at an accelerated pace.  Regular tactical and technical sessions resume in the afternoons starting October 27th.

The next focus for the group is game preparation ahead of the SSA Prairie Series taking place November 9th–11th in Martensville and Saskatoon Soccer Centre.  The girls are also looking forward to the Alliance Academy league to assist with their preparation for their next showcase March 2026 in Vancouver.

Program assessment for identified players will resume in January of 2026. Communication will be sent to those players in the upcoming weeks.  

Goalkeeper Academy

The SSA goalkeeper academy starts November 4th. Identified athletes have been sent an invitation to register. The academy runs 2x per week from November to the end of June. Technical Leadership Diploma (December 6-7)

This course is designed for Technical Directors, aspiring TDs, executives, board members, presidents, and administrative staff, Female participation is highly recommended. Its mission is to equip organization leaders with the tools and knowledge to effectively lead people and programs.

Female Development Network

Earlier this month we held the first meeting of our Female Development Network Progeam for the 2025/2026 season. The program operates annually from October to April and is open to all females 18 and over that are players, coaches, referees, board members, and organizers within the game in Saskatchewan.

The Female Development Network was created with a clear mission: to increase, support, and retain girls and women participation in soccer through Empowerment, Inclusion and Education!

Tournament Sanctioning Forms will now be submitted through an electronic form in submittable. Tournament follow up form will also be automatically requested electronically and sent post tournament to the tournament organizer.
