Technical Leadership Diploma

The SSA Technical Leadership Diploma in partnership with the Edwards School of Business took place the weekend of December 6th and 7th in Saskatoon.

Technical Directors, aspiring TDs, executives, board members, presidents, and administrative staff from around the province participated in two days of leadership-focused learning and discussion. The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including a DISC workshop where we learned about our own behavioural profiles and how understanding our tendencies can help us lead more effectively. Participants also explored how leaders can work with the strengths and challenges of individuals on their teams, using self-awareness to build trust and foster positive environments.

Throughout the weekend, participants examined workplace conflict and the different ways people may respond based on their communication style and personality. A major theme was ensuring that, as leaders, we approach difficult conversations with empathy, clarity, and an understanding of the person we’re engaging with. The workshops emphasised how leadership begins with knowing yourself—your style, your triggers, your strengths and how that personal awareness directly impacts your ability to motivate others, resolve conflict, and build culture.

Overall, the diploma weekend was designed to help participants better understand who we are as human beings so we can lead with intention, communicate more effectively, and create positive outcomes in our interactions with staff, players, parents, and broader club communities.
