Gracious and ever-loving God,

We ask your eternal blessing on the Chapel of Mary. May those seekers and pilgrims that visit our humble Chapel find peace, consolation, and perseverance.

Bless each of the Servite Priests and the Oblate Sisters of St. Martha who serve here.

Gathered, nourished and sent, may all who enter into this holy Chapel be prepared to love and serve you, O Lord, as well as our neighbor.

Amen.

Celebrating the Centennial

As we continue to celebrate our Centennial Anniversary, we hope you will enjoy this next feature, "The Grotto Through the Decades."

Today: The 2020s

2020: The Pandemic

In March 2020, The Grotto, along with the rest of the world, shut down. We were closed for 88 days that spring and summer. During the closure, Mass was livestreamed from the Monastery, as seen above.

When we reopened, it was with strict guidelines and very limited attendance. Masks and social distancing became the norm.

2021: Restoration of the Chapel of Mary

During the pandemic, after the grounds reopened but with very limited attendance, the Chapel of Mary went through a planned renovation. New pews, lighting and flooring were installed, the entire chapel was painted, and the magnificent murals were restored. A new organ was purchased. If you haven't visited The Grotto since 2021, we encourage you to come and experience the amazing Chapel of Mary.

2024: The Centennial Storm

In January of 2024, a major storm of wind and ice wrecked havoc on the grounds of The Grotto. We lost more than 10 trees that were over 100 feet tall and 100 years old. Shrubs and flowers were destroyed and pathways were uprooted.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, the grounds are looking wonderful once again. Our peaceful sanctuary has returned.

2024: The Grotto Interpretive Center

The Visitor Center is currently closed while it is being renovated into the new Grotto Interpretive Center. Scheduled to open during the Centennial Celebration in September, this space will be educational, inspiring and fun.

2024: The Centennial

All are invited to join us at noon Sunday, Sept. 15, upon the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, to celebrated our 100th Anniversary Mass. Archbishop Alexander K. Sample will preside.
