Honors Students Place First in Regional Honors Conference
Congratulations to the Honors students who won first place in the 'Under 60 Hours' division of the Poster competition at the Great Plains Regional Honors Conference, held at Midwestern State University on March 10 and 11.

Join us for the annual Festival de Cascarones, the official finale to Fiesta San Antonio, on Sunday, April 30, 1 p.m. - 8 p.m., on the Texas A&M University-San Antonio campus! Free admission and open to the public, this event will feature live music, food, games and fun for the whole family - all day long! There will be a Kids Zone for the young ones. The event is pet friendly (dogs must be leashed).

Mental Health Ally Training
Join the Student Counseling Center for a Mental Health Ally training about suicide prevention. Open to students, faculty and staff. This training will help you recognize the signs of distress that someone may exhibit, warning signs, as well ways to broach the topic of suicide with someone you're concerned for. Lunch will be provided.

Attend a Safe Space Training this Spring!
Rainbow P.A.W.S. (Pride at Work and School) is hosting several Safe Space training workshops for the Spring semester. Each workshop is two hours long and features a Q&A at the end.
Through education and advocacy, the Safe Space program seeks to make A&M–SA a more welcoming, safe and inclusive campus for LGBTQ+ individuals. A term that includes but is not limited to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer individuals.
Safe Space workshops prepare members of the University community to support and advocate for those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Safe Spaces are people, not places. Through this training, you will become a Safe Space for our LGBTQ+ students, staff and faculty.
Once the workshop has been completed, you will receive a Safe Space sticker, which you can display to signal your status as an advocate.

Dr. Davida Smyth, Associate Professor, Featured by Tiny Earth and BBC
The National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) recently awarded A&M-SA Professor Dr. Davida Smyth, a Tiny Earth Partner Instructor (TEPI) since 2019 and previously a member of the Tiny Earth Symposium committee, the Four-Year College & University Section Biology Teaching Award. The award recognizes innovative research and creativity in undergraduate biology and education. Her research spans wastewater epidemiology, microbial ecology and genomics, antibiotic resistance in urban ecosystems, science education and civic engagement. Read more.

New 600-acre Development to Bring More Affordable Homes to South Side
The development is also located down the street from Texas A&M University-San Antonio and will be adjacent to a new University Health facility undergoing construction. There will also be more opportunities for people living at Los Arcos to access jobs, preventative services and health care. Read more.

Recreational Sports Celebrates Groundbreaking of New Recreation Center
Students are just as enthusiastic about the construction of the facility. Seeing the university grow around them has brought optimism for the future of the school. The $17.4 million facility will include three large, primary spaces: a gymnasium that will house two recreational basketball courts and one collegiate competition court, a 3,400-square- feet weight room and a locker room. A&M-San Antonio Valorant Team Dusts the Dustdevils
The Texas A&M University-San Antonio esports team took a 2-1 victory over the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils on March 8. The final round was a chaotic back and forth. Neither team would give an inch until the Jaguars buckled down and clutched out a victory, beating the Dustdevils 12-10. Head Coach Aaron Jaggers was proud of his team down the stretch. Jaggers said he saw individuals go above and beyond their typical performance to seal the win. Read more.

VIA’s Fast-Growing South Side Rideshare Connects Residents to Jobs and Schools | |
A partnership between VIA Metropolitan Transit and Toyota to expand the transit agency’s rideshare program to the South Side has significantly increased residents’ access to schools and jobs, officials said. Link South connects a 12.5-mile area that includes the Madla Transit Center, Palo Alto College, Texas A&M University-San Antonio, South San High School, South Park Mall, Toyota and H-E-B. Voter-Approved Affordable Housing Bond Project Breaks Ground on the City’s South Side
Development partners and City officials gathered at the site of the future Los Arcos at VIDA to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing development on San Antonio’s south side. Los Arcos, which translates to “the arches” in Spanish, is the first project to break ground that utilizes funds from the 2022–2027 City of San Antonio (COSA) Housing Bond Program. Los Arcos will be reserved for working families and individuals earning 30 to 70 percent of the area's median income, ensuring high-quality living options at affordable rates. Located in the 600-acre VIDA San Antonio master development, just steps from Texas A&M University-San Antonio, the 324-unit affordable housing community will feature a resort style pool, community garden, fitness center, children’s playgrounds, business center, children’s activity room and clubhouse lounge. Residents will enjoy direct access to the new Madla Greenway trail system, as well as a vibrant retail center, student housing and a new University Health hospital campus. Read more.

A&M-SA Professor Assist in Kansas State Research
Dr. Srinivas Mummidi, a professor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, assists in research for Kansas State University where researchers have led a newly published study that is helping unlock some of the secrets of specific cellular messengers called exosomes. Kansas State University said the work could lead to therapeutic interventions against neurodegenerative diseases and spinal cord injuries. Read more.
