Dr. Salvador Hector Ochoa Named Sole Finalist for University President


The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents announced Dr. Salvador Hector Ochoa as the sole finalist for president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Dr. Ochoa currently serves as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at San Diego State University. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and a South Texas native. Read more.

Academic Excellence

A&M-SA Students to Attend S-STEM Scholars Meeting in Washington, D.C.


Four undergraduate students were invited to participate in the 2023 S-STEM Scholars Meeting, in Washington, D.C., this September. Korina Alcantara, Danielle Bragg, Destiny Guerra and Kailynn Wells will share their experience and research outcomes with others from around the country. The research topics at A&M-SA revolve around water resources and aquatic science. In 2021 the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded A&M-SA a five-year S-STEM scholarship program to cultivate undergraduate scholars with scholarships and research training. The project will award 55 scholarships by 2026 and consists of eight faculty mentors across multiple disciplines. The program is at the tail end of the two-year cohort. Each year, the program selects students majoring in STEM programs and provides faculty-mentored immersive research experiences.

Communications Internship Course Launches Graduates’ Journalism Careers


After bonding during their first semester at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Sarah Cervera and Lily Celeste interned together at KSAT 12, and in June, they will launch their broadcast journalism careers at KRGV Channel 5 in the Rio Grande Valley. Read more.

Dr. Davida Smyth shares her journey as a first-generation university student from Ireland to the United States. Dr. Smyth talks about how seeing bodily fluids in the clinical lab inspired her to pursue a career in science. She also stresses the importance of taking advantage of opportunities, approaching your professors, building classes around students' needs, and making science relevant. Dr. Francis X. Galan Book Talk


On June 24, Associate Professor of History, Dr. Galan, will be discussing his discoveries about the history of Mission Dolores while preparing to write his book on the East Texas missions and presidios founded in our region during the Spanish colonial period.



Dr. Galan’s book, "Los Adaes: the First Capital of Spanish Texas", won the 2022 book award from the Texas Old Missions and Forts Restoration Association and in March 2023, won a book award from the San Antonio Conservation Society Foundation. Learn more about this book talk event.
