Indigenous Film Series presents Embrace of the Serpent
The critically acclaimed 2015 film Embrace of the Serpent (El Abrazo de la Serpiente) will be screened Thursday, Jan. 27, at 5:30 p.m. via Webex.
Sponsored by the Indigenous Film Series, the film explores the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and way of life by white colonialism through the story of an indigenous shaman who journeys with a German ethnographer and an American botanist 30 years apart.
Directed by Ciro Guerra and filmed almost entirely in black and white, Embrace of the Serpent was the first Colombian film ever to receive a nomination for an Academy Award.
The Indigenous Film Series promotes intercultural connections and communication to foster community partnerships and contextualize a broader history of indigenous survival, activism, and resilience.
