The comprehensive re-development of the University's website is underway and it will improve communications, functionality, and the overall look of the site. A new design has been thoughtfully developed to support a comprehensive content strategy and entails migration of current content into a simplified version of the new design, and re-development of content and full integration of design.

Faculty and staff please be on the look out for a communication with more details regarding migration and content support for the new website.

Student Counseling Center Announces 24/7 Service, Updated Contact Protocols 
 
The preferred method of contact has changed, along with the advent of a 24/7 option for students. Here are the updated contact protocols:

Smashing! Golden Egg Competition Gets Underway Today!
 
Current students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio will have a chance to win a tuition-free semester for submitting the best Cascarone Smash! 
  
The Golden Egg contest – sponsored by A&M-San Antonio is open for submissions beginning Monday, March 21 at 8 a.m. through Sunday, April 3, at 11:59 p.m. 
  
The winner will be announced on Sunday, April 10, 6 p.m. at the Festival de Cascarones Main Stage. 
  
The contest winner will receive a tuition fee waiver for one semester* (up to 15 credit hours) at A&M-San Antonio.  
  
Rules: 
  • You must be a current student with A&M-San Antonio for the Spring 2022 semester. 
  • You must fill out the form below and submit your video. Click the link below to fill out the form, where you will enter your information and upload your At-Home Cascarone smash video.

Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society
Selects Eight Students for Induction in April 

Eight outstanding Texas A&M-San Antonio students will be recognized Friday, April 1 for academic achievement during an induction ceremony for the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society. 
 
Nominated students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0, and a cumulative GPA of 3.1 in history courses, with at least 12 history credit hours.  

This year's inductees include Kendall Batiste; Steven Joseph Corrales; Robert A. Dalton; Vincent Marchini; Joseph Charles Platt; Khalil Fyzee Wong; Rasul Katarina Tijerina; and Demi Renay Villarreal.  

Phi Alpha Theta was established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas; today, it has over 400,000 members with some 9,000 new members joining each year through 970 chapters nationwide.
Join the Walk for Autism on Campus, April 2 

Walk for a cause at the Any Baby Can’s Walk for Autism on campus, April 2, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The walk will be held on the CAB quadrangle of the A&M San Antonio campus.   
 
Our A&M Autism Lifeline Links team and the College of Education and Human Development invite faculty, staff, and students to join our TAMUSA COEHD team to walk in solidarity at the upcoming Walk for Autism. Any Baby Can’s mission is to serve families with children and youth facing serious health or developmental challenges. We are excited to be part of this effort and grateful to host this event on campus to continue bringing awareness and support to families raising individuals on the spectrum. Any Baby Can is an Austin-based organization serving clients in 10 Texas counties ”with a whole family approach to creating stability and addressing physical, developmental, and emotional well-being.“ The College of Education works closely with the organization. 
  
The walk coincides with the Autism Heroes Motorcycle Ride, which starts and ends at the same time from the campus. One in 44 children nationwide will be diagnosed with autism this year, and in Bexar County over 30,000 individuals are living with autism. Proceeds from The Walk for Autism will help provide service and support for families raising individuals on the spectrum.  Interested persons can register for the walk here.

The Deportation Express 
 
Dr. Ethan Blue, senior lecturer in History at the University of Western Australia, will discuss his book, The Deportation Express: A History of America Through Forced Removal (University of California Press, 2021) in a virtual book talk, Wednesday, April 6, at 7 p.m.
 
The book explores the systematic forced removal of immigrants through a network of prison railroad cars under the auspices of the U.S. Immigration Bureau in the early 20th century.

Dr. Blue will be joined by Dr. Bill Bush, A&M San Antonio Professor and Chair of the Department of History, and Associate Professor of History Dr. George Diaz of UT-Rio Grande.

The discussion is co-sponsored by A&M San Antonio's History Department and History Department and Mexican American Studies Program at UT-Rio Grande Valley.
 
The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
Festival de Cascarones

Join us for the annual Festival de Cascarones, the official finale to Fiesta San Antonio, on Sunday, April 10, 1 p.m. - 8 p.m., on the A&M-San Antonio campus! Free and open to the public, this event will feature live music, food, games, and fun for the whole family - all day long! There will be a Kids Zone for the young ones and the event is pet-friendly (dogs must be leashed).

The event will be headlined by Texas-based singer/songwriter Kevin Fowler.

Further information on live performances, entertainment and activities will be announced at a later date. Save the date now to close out Fiesta San Antonio at A&M-San Antonio!
Jeans with a Purpose 

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Hazing Prevention Committee reminds faculty, staff, and students that Wednesday, April 27 is Denim Day. Wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against false and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
