Health & Kinesiology Triumphs at TAHPERD Convention with Award-Winning Research

Dr. John Smith and seven students from the Health & Kinesiology Program participated in the 2023 Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Annual Convention in Fort Worth.


The students immersed themselves in sessions dedicated to advancing knowledge and programs promoting active and healthy lifestyles, as well as refining skills and aesthetic motor performance in children.


Jordan Kappmeyer presented her research, titled “Correlation between the development of gross motor skills and cognitive advances in early childhood,” earning her 1st place in the Undergraduate Category.

Math Program Explores Industry Connections at Southwest Research Institute

In an engaging initiative on November 8, Professor Burak Aksoylu, the Math Program Coordinator, led students, including Math Club members, on a field trip to Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). During the visit, students participated in research seminars conducted by Professor Aksoylu and Dr. Walker, the director of the Engineering Dynamics Department. Zoie Cowan, a recruiter, provided insights into internship programs at SwRI, sparking in-depth conversations among students about potential internship opportunities. Additionally, the group had the chance to tour various research laboratories, enhancing their understanding of industry applications in mathematics.
