USAA Grant Helps Families Realize Higher Education Dreams


A&M-San Antonio launched the multiyear La Familia program with the aid of a $1 million grant from USAA to help first-generation college students and their parents. The program gives parents an opportunity to attend workshops about how to best pursue a post-secondary education for their child. Upon successfully completing the program, they can earn up to $1,000 in a one-time institutional scholarship for their student to attend A&M-SA. Read more.

A new A&M-San Antonio mobile app is launching in late July! The University app will be available on Google Play and the App Store. Look for updates online and on University social media channels.  

New Campus Well-being Hashtag


The Student Wellness Committee is pleased to announce the results of the campus-wide vote on the university's new well-being hashtag!


#JagsWellness


All campus departments are invited to begin using #JagsWellness on their social media platforms, as well as their wellness initiatives and future programming events.

Academic Excellence

Rising Star Awards


The College of Arts & Sciences Sciences recently honored 39 first-year students as Rising Stars. Students were nominated by math and English faculty teaching first-year courses, as well as by staff that tutor and support those areas.

Additionally, three students were recognized for special awards related to Collaboration, Empathy, and Perseverance.


  • Michael Mikhail received the Alicanto Empathy Award
  • Debora Garcia Rivera received the Phoenix Rising Perseverance Award
  • Courtney Malloy received the Quetzlcoatl Collaboration Award

History Student Research Awards


The History Program is pleased to announce the 2023 Ocasio-Lopez Hernandez Memorial Award in History, for the best undergraduate student research paper. This year's winner is Celina Gomez for her paper entitled "From Organic to Toxic: How Soap Industries and Advertising Affected Women and Consumers in the Early Twentieth Century" written in Dr. Amy Porter's History 4301 class.


Student Zachary Durham won honorable mention for his paper entitled "Muted Strings: The Hidden Multi-Ethnic Origins of Texas Fiddle Music" written in Dr. Francis Galan's History 4301 class.
