University Receives Grant to Alleviate Teacher Shortage


The University has been awarded a $1.5 million Augustus F. Hawkins Centers of Excellence Program grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The funds will support scholarships and resources to help the University recruit, train and retain bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers. Read more.

Student Spotlight: After nearly dropping out, Gabriella Villegas will soon graduate and launch her career as a physical therapist


“Being a first-generation student was my biggest challenge because I just didn’t know what I was doing,” she said. “But I learned that while you might fail, you’ve got to get back up and keep trying. You have to put yourself out there to learn who you really are.” Read her story.

Paws Up Service Day

Volunteer to aid the San Antonio community through one of five service projects in partnership with multiple Bexar County nonprofits, including two on-campus opportunities.


Breakfast, T-shirts and transportation to and from volunteer sites (from the campus rally) will be provided to all participants.


This event is open to students, friends, family, faculty, staff, alumni and community guests who wish to attend.
