Professor Explores Yucatán's Underwater Caves

Dr. Fernando Calderon Gutierrez, a biologist and Postdoctoral Fellow, is featured in a new episode of Jonathan Bird’s Blue World, an Emmy Award-winning science/adventure series. The episode focuses on Gutierrez’s expedition to the Yucatán and Cozumel, where he explores underwater caves in search of unique fauna like blind shrimp, crayfish, and remipedes. The expedition is part of a University research project funded by a National Science Foundation grant. Gutierrez is working on the project with Dr. Elizabeth Borda, an assistant professor and the project's principal investigator.

VP for University Advancement Appointed

Gwendolyn Notestine brings over 25 years of experience in higher education fundraising and development. Her background includes leadership roles at Arizona State University Foundation and UT Health San Antonio. She starts her new position July 15, 2024. Read more.

Darnell Smith Named RRAC Athletic Director of the Year

Smith has been named the 2023-24 Red River Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year. This honor recognizes Smith's leadership and contributions at A&M-San Antonio, including overall program performance, facility development, coach recruitment, and student-athlete development. Read more.

From History Major to Inspirational Graduate

Recent graduate Christian Fox was featured in KSAT's "Great Graduates" series for his inspiring journey. Fox, who grew up in a single-parent household and lives in an affordable housing community, graduated with a 3.65 GPA and earned recognition on the dean's and president's lists. Fox, who majored in history, plans to pursue a master's degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio and hopes to launch his career at a museum or national park. Read more.
