Henrico’s Environmental Action Resource Team is participating in the Climate Pollution Reduction Plan. This multi-jurisdictional collaboration, managed by PlanRVA, is focused on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in central Virginia.
Phase one, the Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP), has been submitted to the EPA and phase two, the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) is underway.
The goal is to identify key reduction areas related to transportation, solid waste and government operations. Some of these involve economic sectors, including agriculture, facilities energy management, industrial impact, public, private, commercial and governmental transportation, and waste management.
PlanRVA has met with several stakeholders, including regional business leaders, governments, tribal organizations and the public, to seek input to create a plan that responds to all voices of central Virginia.
After the CCAP has been completed and submitted, an implementation plan will be available to all governmental participants. Essentially, this will be a menu of recommended projects that localities can pick and choose from to suit their community’s needs. These programs can be self-contained or regionally coordinated efforts. Implementation grants will be applied for after phase two is completed, giving communities an equitable financial foothold to achieve their environmental goals.
The final phase will be after implementation. This recap phase will be a summary of information covering all aspects of the regional greenhouse gas reduction effects. This final report will be presented to the EPA. Website
