NYSUT Welcomes Educator-Lawmakers

The now-former West Genesee Teachers Association President, now-Sen. John Mannion (pictured with NYSUT President Andy Pallotta) joins several other educators in the state Legislature.

New York State Senators and Assembly Members who are former educators are on the rise, including representatives from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Buffalo, and Central New York. NYSUT president Andy Pallotta sees their roles in the halls of power as essential since funding for K-12 education is often one of the the first cuts made during tight budgetary times. He said these lawmakers understand how funding impacts students so they will be "ferocious when fighting for schools and communities" impacted by negative budgets. An Urgent Appeal for Donations to Support Our Health Care Workers

The federal CARES Act includes new charitable giving incentives for 2020 in an effort to help charitable organizations through this difficult time. Consider making a contribution to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, to take advantage of this new tax benefit.

The Nassau Regional Office presents New and Early Career Conferences for educators who are brand new to the profession or are in their first five years of employment. These conferences address topics important to new and early career educators.

A series of one-hour online workshops are being offered throughout the year. In addition, NYSUT's Education and Learning Trust will host three seminars. Two of these seminars are requirements for certification. Cambridge Credit Counseling will run a student debt clinic.

We urge new and early career members to take advantage of this excellent opportunity.
