Teachers and Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
|
|
Language teachers around the district kicked off Hispanic Heritage month on September 15th. The annual celebration began in 1968 as a week-long event and was expanded in 1988 to run from September 15th to October 15th. Hispanic Heritage Month honors the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Teachers are planning exciting activities to share with their students - more to come!

HCT at Citi Field
by Alison Silvestri
On Saturday, September 17th, HCT Members with friends and family enjoyed a gorgeous evening at Citi Field. The hometown Mets took on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of a three-game series. The game started off with a bang, as Pete Alonso hit a home run in the first inning and the Mets never lost the lead, winning the game 5-1. All enjoyed a great game together and everyone took home a promotional jersey!
Keep an eye out for more opportunities to get involved from the Member Engagement Committee. #Let’sGoMets #WeAreHCT

HCT Pilot Program Helps Fund SEPTA Scholarship
SEPTA announced at the recent PTA council meeting the creation of two new $500 scholarships for graduating Hicksville seniors. Representatives said they are able to offer them based on their fully-funded status this year, due to an HCT pilot program. As part of its budget, HCT has funded both PTA and SEPTA for all its current members. No HCT member should be asked to pay to join PTA or SEPTA this year, it's already done!

The HCT is updating its tutor referral database. When a request for a tutor is received, we will contact members on the list who meet the criteria. It is up to the individual teacher to make arrangements as to times, fees and location. We cycle through the lists to ensure that everyone will have an opportunity to tutor. Replies must be made within 48 hours so that we can respond to requests in a timely manner. Once we hear back from you, we will forward the parent's phone number and student information.
If you are interested in participating in our tutor referral program or would like to continue tutoring, please complete this short form.
