Casey Stradley, '16 HS, pictured here with her supervisor, Renee Purzycki, credits her current job fulfillment and success to her senior year internship opportunity. Casey’s placement was with the State of DE, Division of Long Term Care Program where she is now a full-time employee. During her internship, Casey was an instrumental contributor on a ground breaking project made possible by a grant through Civil Money Penalty Funds. This grant enabled the creation of the Music and Memory Program, an initiative to benefit Delaware nursing home residents coping with memory impairment.
The ultimate goal of the program is to impact the residents' lives by bringing back old memories associated with music to build engagement with family, friends, and nursing home staff,
According to Casey,
“this internship gave me an incredible opportunity to return a sense of dignity to many individuals that are trapped within their minds. Knowing I have the ability to positively affect someone’s quality of life is truly an amazing feeling".
