The Center of Black Culture hosted Danny Glover, on February 23rd, for a conversation on social justice. The event was part of Black History month celebrations as well as the Center's 40th anniversary.

Spotlights

Juana Gaviria-Loaiza: '18 Ph.D.

Hometown:Medellin, Columbia

Juana's research interests include adult-child interactions, cultural differences in parenting and teaching practices, and Hispanic children and families.

Juana has been awarded the University Dissertation Fellowship by the Office of the Graduate and Professional Studies for the 2017-2018 academic year. Congratulations, Juana!

Elise Colomb, '06 BS, '14 MS joined the HDFS Department as a Clinical Coordinator this past summer. Elise completed her bachelor's degree in our ECE program and earned her master's degree in Exceptional Children and Youth. She has also has taught in pre-K through fourth grade classrooms.

Elise supervises student teachers and also is an instructor of HDFS433. She is wonderful addition to our staff and a great resource for our students.

New Initiatives

MA in Early Childhood

Development and Programming

In July 2017, HDFS will begin offering a 12 month professional graduate degree for those interested in developing and administering early childhood programs in the U.S. and abroad.

The program follows an intensive, one year degree program with a cycle that would typically begin in June and end in May with courses taken during the summer, fall, winter and spring terms. Read More

Global Connections

Senior ECE majors, Fiona Tumulty and Lauren Montagna, are student teaching in ACS Athens for twelve weeks, They are the first students to participate in this newly created program as a result of our partnership with the American Community Schools in Athens, Greece.
