Oh! And we have a special offer - just for you!

If you are in theatre withdrawal during our off-season, we have the solution...

Theatre by the Bay's summer season is about to begin, and they want to offer special ticket prices to our newsletter subscribers. (That's you!)

For the July 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th performances of their new original play The Cenotaph Project, you have access to discounted tickets - only $20 (before fees) - when you use the exclusive promo code 'MARIPOSA'! That's a savings of almost $15 off the general admission ticket price!

The Cenotaph Project runs at The Five Points Theatre in Barrie from July 17th - 28th. This new original play is inspired by the book The Boys from Barrie (written by local history teacher Clint Lovell, with the help of his students), and investigates the legacy of World War II in 2019, exploring how we keep our history alive - even generations after the events have passed.

Orillia Museum of Art & History: Melody Lynn Madden - Exquisite to Sublime
 Ongoing

Melody Lynn Madden:
Exquisite to Sublime

Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, September 22, 2019

The Lounge Gallery

The suite of works in Exquisite to Sublime will provide a glimpse of Melody's development as an artist.   She began her professional artistic journey in textiles. Having grown up watching her grandmother embroider instilled a value of working with her hands.  Her free motion embroidered works are a stage in her seamless transition into painting with oils and acrylics. Her paintings evoke a sense of calm and introspection while simultaneously engaging palpable emotions.

I feel as if I paint places I would like to step into... places that not only inspire but comfort me.- Melody Lynn Madden

Orillia Museum of Art & History: Galleries & Events
Ongoing

Opening Reception: July 13, 1-3 PM

The Franklin Carmichael Gallery

An exhibition mash up of a road trip, Champlain's touchdown in Orillia and the Apollo 11 moon landing by artists Gary Blundell and Victoria Ward, in an exploration of place and time.
Victoria spent her summers in Orillia as a child at her family cottage - a place layered with meaning for her.  She watched the Apollo 11 moon landing on a television that her father put on a beach along the shore of Lake Simcoe.
As a child Gary immigrated to Canada from England.  One thing that was a constant during his childhood were the statues of Samuel de Champlain that seemed to be everywhere he and his family traveled; to Quebec City, in Ottawa at Nepean Point, and eventually also in Orillia.
The theme of exploration is therefore very prevalent in Project Voyager. So is place.

Listen to Gary & Victoria's summer road trip playlist  here.
