October 2024

Dear Habitat for Humanity,

We did it—Women+ Build 2024 blitz is officially complete, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome! I’d like to take a moment to share some exciting insights from this year's event and express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support from our community.

In just 12 days, we came together to accomplish something truly remarkable: we turned two concrete slabs into two nearly completed homes, in partnership with two women in our community. This achievement was made possible by the collective efforts of dedicated volunteers and supporters, showcasing the strength of our community. Here are some impressive highlights from this initiative:

  • 3,530 volunteer hours were dedicated.
  • 379 builders collaborated.
  • We welcomed 167 new builders to our ranks.
  • 45 crew leaders skillfully guided construction.
  • 30 food and drink donors kept everyone energized.
  • 26 team leaders orchestrated successful efforts.
  • 14 site hosts provided invaluable support.
  • 11 committee members coordinated our efforts.
  • And 7 talented photographers documented our journey.

Together, we changed the lives of three people, Rebekah, Dayanna and Dayanna’s son, while expanding access to affordable housing. Since Women+ Build began in 2001, we have built 37 homes, providing shelter for 93 individuals, including 46 children. Throughout this time, we have raised an incredible $3 million to support our mission.

Your involvement, whether through direct support, encouragement of our participants, or as part of our wider community, is invaluable. Thank you for being part of the Women+ Build legacy. As we move forward, we look forward to building on this success and continuing to make dreams of homeownership come true for many more families.

In partnership,

Wendi Goodlett

Building Hope: The Whirlpool Blitz Build with Angelique

We are excited to announce our annual Whirlpool Blitz Build begins today! We will be constructing a new home with Angelique and her children. Angelique, a dedicated single mother and full-time nursing student, has long dreamed of homeownership while balancing her education and family life. By the end of this year, she is determined to achieve both her goals—owning a home and completing her nursing degree.

The build will run through November 2, with dedicated volunteers from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business—comprising students, faculty, staff, and alumni—working every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On Friday, October 18, our incredible volunteers will also team up with staff from Whirlpool Corporation on the build site.

This initiative, made possible through our invaluable partnership with Whirlpool and the Kelley School of Business, is part of Whirlpool’s BuildBetter program, which focuses on creating energy-efficient and hazard-resilient homes. Whirlpool Corporation has generously sponsored 13 homes in Monroe County and donated energy-efficient appliances for all our homes (and every Habitat home in the US and Canada!), helping more families achieve homeownership. Collaborating with the Kelley School, where many Whirlpool leaders are alumni, further strengthens our community engagement, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to build a brighter future together for families like Angelique’s.

We invite you to join us on Saturday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m. at Angelique’s home in the Osage Place neighborhood for a special celebration honoring her and her family, as well as the collaborative efforts that make homeownership possible. Come and enjoy the festivities, complete with refreshments! Parking is available at RCA Community Park, and no RSVP is required. Together, we’re building hope, homes, and brighter futures with families in our community.
