Letter from Todd
Happy Holidays!
This time of year tends be to the time for reflecting on the work completed and the great memories we’ve shared. From driving pile in Dearborn, to building bridges in Benton Harbor, and all of projects in between, one thing I know for sure is none of the work would be possible without the great people our Company works with.
Thank you to the trade partners and owners we work with who trust us to work safely and produce quality work on their jobsites. Thank you to our business partners who help in our success in so many ways. Most importantly, thank you to our wonderful employees and their families who allow us to share their lives daily. Our line of work isn’t easy and I can’t thank you enough for all of the sacrifices you make.
As we close 2021 I can’t help but be excited for the upcoming year. I look forward to working with all of you in the new year.
From everyone at Hardman Construction, we wish you the happiest holiday season!

FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Adam Bonner, Superintendent
|
Adam Bonner came to Hardman Construction as a young, first year carpenter apprentice. He had an extensive background in welding and quickly caught on to the world of deep foundations, earth retention systems, and bridge building. Over the past five years, Adam has graduated from the apprenticeship program and began running work for the Company. Adam is intelligent, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone or on any project. He has shown his ability to plan out the day's work and lead the crew comes naturally. The Company is excited to watch Adam continue to grow within his role and could not be more proud to have him on the Hardman Construction team!

Jami Klomp, Human Resources Manager
|
Jami Klomp started with Hardman Construction as the Payroll Specialist, but it didn’t take long for her to make her mark as the Human Resources Manager. Jami is not only approachable and welcoming, but has the talent and foresight to see what is needed to recruit and retain employees. She works closely with the Project Managers, union BA’s, employees, and is the best link between the office and the field. Jami currently serves on the Michigan AGC Workforce Development Committee, is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Westshore CTE Construction Trades program, completed the Future Leaders Program through AGC, sits on the JATC committee for the carpenters' Wayland school, and was responsible for Hardman receiving a training grant for 2021. She also helped coordinate the opening of the Hardman Construction Exhibit at the Sandcastle’s Children’s Museum in Ludington. If that wasn’t enough, she has the ability to get along with everyone and the company wouldn’t be the same without her!

TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Matt Kessel, Shop Fabricator
|
Matt started his career with Hardman as a temporary employee, primarily fabricating items for a few larger projects. However, it didn't take long for the team to realize it needed to have Matt on full time...and luckily Matt agreed! Matt has the ability to do a little bit of everything for the shop team. He can fabricate pieces for the field, work on equipment, and load trucks. He also takes on many other responsibility to keep the Company up and running and is willing to lend a hand wherever needed in order to keep progress moving forward. Matt's calm demeanor and can-do mentality makes him very easy to approach, but don't don't let that fool you--Matt will still be one on the first to come up with a good one-liner or throw a joke your way. Having Matt on the Hardman team has been a pleasure and makes the team in the shop better!

TWENTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Marty Gamble, Vice President of Geotechnical Services
|
Marty Gamble's path to Hardman Construction came fairly early in his career as a young Civil Engineer. Before coming to Hardman, he was working for a large geotechnical contractor who worked all over the United States, which meant Marty also worked all over the US. Being native to Michigan, Marty and his wife wanted to get back to Michigan in order to start a family and put down roots. On a chance call and phone conversation with Hardman Construction Founder, Al Hardman, Marty was invited to come to Ludington for an interview and was offered a job. It didn't take long for Marty to make his mark on the company. He brought a vast knowledge of geotechnical construction processes with him and was a huge reason why Hardman Construction branched out even more in that sector of the industry--and he continues to contributes to the Company's success in the geotechnical world. In 2005, Marty was part of the trio that purchased the company, doing so alongside Todd Schrader and Bruce Lowing. He remains an owner of the Company.
Marty is still very active in the day to day operations in the field. He has the ability to visualize a problem and come up with solutions without actually seeing the problem firsthand. Above all, Marty has a huge heart and would do just about anything to help someone out. Marty is one of those people who has never met a stranger. Having Marty on the team helps make Hardman Construction better!

TWENTY FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Jason Shimel, Shop Employee
|
Jason Shimel started his career with Hardman Construction in our Shop located in Ludington, where he continues his career to this day. Jason has worked in a number of roles and has a vast amount of knowledge. Having his knowledge and experience, coupled with his willingness to help the team where needed is a tremendous help to the entire team. Jason will jump in a truck when the team is in a pinch and deliver equipment or supplies to jobsites. He has also taken on the role of beginning point of contact in the shop from time to time when Andy is out of the shop for a day or two. These acts, although they may seem small, are the things that help the entire Hardman Construction team continue to excel. Having Jason at Hardman Construction over the past 25 years has been a pleasure and the team looks forward to working with him for years to come!

FORTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Scott Chaffee, Superintendent
|
Scott Chaffee started working at Hardman Construction after graduating high school. Starting in 1981, Scott is Hardman's longest working employee in company history and has been a trusted Superintendent. After 40 years, he has seen just about anything and everything that has been throw the Company's way. That firsthand knowledge is no doubt helpful, but it is Scott's intelligence and ability to begin building a project in his mind before he even looks at any prints that really makes him successful. He can problem solve on the spot and knowing he is with the crews puts the entire Hardman team at ease. Scott also has the ability to remain calm and is very approachable--being able to couple those two skills with his technical ability makes Scott such a valuable team member. Above that, he is also as good of a mechanic as he is a Superintendent. Scott is always ready to provide advice, lend a hand, and share a joke. The team is better because of Scott and wishes there was a way to have him around for another 40 years!
