Announcing Interim Canon Pastor at The Cathedral

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I am pleased to let you know that I have appointed the Reverend Annalise Pasalo as part-time Interim Canon Pastor for the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu, effective August 1, 2026, through the end of this year. In this ministry, Canon Annalise will be a pastoral bridge for the Cathedral congregation and community during this season of transition — offering pastoral care, preaching and presiding at Cathedral liturgies, and supporting the Cathedral's formation programs.


Please note that the Cathedral does not currently have a Dean, and this appointment does not fill that role: Canon Annalise is not the interim Dean and will not be attending Chapter meetings. Decisions about the Cathedral's ordained leadership beyond the end of this year will rest with the sixth Bishop of Hawaiʻi, in consultation with the Chapter, once that bishop has been ordained and seated. I am grateful for your patience and your prayers as we walk through this transition together.

Visiting St. John the Baptist: This is my 'ohana

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the Bishop headed to St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Waianae to visit the tight-knit community of God with their Vicar, the Rev. Jazzy Bostock. In a post on social media, the Bishop affectionately shared: "This was the first congregation that I visited with my family when I arrived in The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i to serve as Bishop Dick Chang's Canon and before I started with a neighboring congregation as Vicar (for most of the time that I was Canon to the Ordinary, I was also the Vicar of a Mission congregation). That was almost 27 years ago. These folk have cared and prayed for me for a long time. I'm particularly proud that I was the bishop who ordained their Vicar. Natural disasters are causing havoc around the planet. Please pray for those affected by the typhoon that hit Guam and Saipan this past weekend, and for the victims and families affected by the devastating earhtquake in Venezuela. Bishop's Farewell Tour: Kaua'i & Maui coming up! Please RSVP

Coming up next on Bishop Bob's Farewell Tour is Kaua'i on July 25, at St. Michael and All Angels in Lihue, and the following week on Maui at Seabury Hall on August 1. Folks can attend any of the gatherings, but please be sure to RSVP so that the hosts have an estimate of how many people to expect and how much food to prepare for.


Remember to bring your favorite photos with the Bishop for his scrapbook that will be at each event! For those unable to make any of the gatherings, you can still upload photos and/or leave a message for him through the RSVP form by clicking HERE or scanning the QR code on the flyer. IMPORTANT! Neighbor Island Clergy & Convention Delegates:

Make Flight Reservations NOW!

We are advising all neighbor island voting clergy and convention delegates to book your flights NOW, especially those planning to arrive on Saturday morning for the Annual Meeting. With the recent cutback in flights on Hawaiian Airlines, in most cases, there is only one flight that will get you to O'ahu in time before check-in closes at 8:30 AM. Remember, late arrivals could cause you to lose your ability to vote! Please click HERE for travel procedures, then submit the Air Travel Request online form HERE. For those who are not voting members of Convention but are traveling with a voting member, you can book your flights together and reimburse the diocese.​


Consider attending Education Day events and/or the Ka Ha’alele ‘Ana Farewell reception for Bishop Bob on Friday to avoid the stress of an early morning flight on Saturday. Although the Diocese does not cover the cost for lodging, we are securing group room rates at the Ala Moana Hotel beginning at $169++ per night which would be available to all neighbor island participants, and not just voting members. Annual Clergy Retreat - Hotel Booking Issues Corrected

Deadline to book the group rate is July 22!

The Diocese of Hawai'i's annual Clergy Conference will be taking place on the Garden Island of Kaua'i, August 24-26, 2026, at the Outrigger Kaua'i Beach Resort & Spa. For those who may have had problems trying to book the hotel through the group rate link, those issues have been resolved, so please try refreshing your browser and try again. As a reminder, the deadline to book at the discounted rate is Wednesday, July 22, at 5:00 PM! If you still have problems, contact Rae Costa HERE.


The Guest Speaker will be the Rev. Rachel Taber-Hamilton, who was a guest speaker at last year's HULI Summer Speaker Series. With this being Bishop Bob's final clergy gathering as Bishop Diocesan, he encourages all clergy in the Diocese to attend. 'Iolani School Welcomes Dr. Melinda Bihn, Head of School

Following a national search that began with 200 candidates, ‘Iolani School welcomed Melinda Bihn, Ed.D., as its new Head of School, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Bihn brings more than three decades of leadership and classroom experience in independent and international schools, most recently serving as Head of School at The International School of San Francisco. She is the first woman in ‘Iolani School's 162-year history to be appointed by the Board of Governors as Head of School.


In a message to the school, Dr. Bihn shared, "It is an extraordinary honor to join this community and serve as your Head of School. I am humbled to join ‘Iolani School’s 164-year tradition of excellence and to follow the example of the remarkable leaders who have guided our school with purpose, integrity and innovation."

Help Nominate ACCW for the Annual Love's Spirit of Giving Initiative


Support A Cup of Cold Water, the Diocese's collaborative outreach success story on Maui, by nominating them for Love's annual Spirit of Giving initiative. In celebration of their 175th anniversary of the Love's brand, they will be awarding a total of $50,000 to nonprofits based in Hawai'i that make a difference in the community. Nominations must be submitted by Sunday, August 9, 2026, to be considered. Click on the button below to nominate this most worthy ministry now. Province VIII Youth Event: Keep our youth in your prayers

Over 150 youth and chaperones from Province VIII will be heading to Hawai'i where we will be hosting delegations from the dioceses of Arizona, California, Idaho, Navajoland, Nevada, Olympia, San Diego, Spokane, Utah, Western Oregon, and even Taiwan! 15 youths from our diocese will be participating, including seven making the journey from Guam and Saipan! The Provincial Youth Event (PYE) will be held July 28 - 31, on the grounds of "The Square" (The Cathedral of St. Andrew, St. Paul's, St. Andrew's Schools, and St. Peter's).


The Diocese is seeking your support with volunteers and also donations that can be made HERE or through the linked donation button shown. The Flourishing of All Creation: Reclaiming Our Vision of Peace as the US Marks its 250th Anniversary

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.


We correctly interpret those words from the Declaration of Independence, signed on the Fourth of July 250 years ago, as more aspirational than descriptive. DEADLINE EXTENDED: Joint Standing Committee on Nominations applications for Episcopal Church leadership positions


The Joint Standing Committee on Nominations invites members from across The Episcopal Church to apply for the key churchwide leadership positions listed below. The deadline to apply online has been extended to August 1. Elections will take place at the 82nd General Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, July 3-8, 2027.

Where Grace Meets Courage: Seven Decisive Moments

I just finished reading Bishop Mariann Budde’s book How We Learn to Be Brave. I could not put the book down. I appreciated Bp. Budde’s stories and her willingness to be vulnerable on the page by sharing her own personal struggles in her vocation, and how she faced them with grace and courage.


Bp. Budde organizes the book around “decisive moments” in life and faith: deciding to go, to stay, to start, to accept what we do not choose, to step up to the plate, living through letdowns, and the hidden virtue of perseverance. We grow in grace not by feeling less afraid, but by learning how to make brave decisions in the light of God’s love. Bp. Budde suggests that courage is formed at the seven recurring decision points in our lives, and all of them are places where grace can meet us. READ MORE

Eco-Justice - The well-being of humankind on a thriving earth. The condition or principle of being just or equitable with respect to ecological sustainability and protection of the environment, as well as social and economic issues.

Net Carbon Neutrality - Achieving net zero carbon emissions either by balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal (often through carbon offsets) or by eliminating carbon emissions.

HAWAI'I ISLAND - Summer Camp!

From St. James' E-News: Thirteen youth from St. James' Parish Congregations headed off to Camp Mokulē'ia for a great time and wonderful adventures! The Camp's summer program kicked off in June and the final session takes place July 12-17!

O'AHU - Sailors Lend a Helping Hand at St. Timothy's

From St. Timothy's Facebook page: We were honored and delighted that RP2 Dalton Palk and his wife, Hope, (pictured below left) brought 13 other Navy service members [on June 30] to help with our outreach food distribution and to carry out cleanup projects in our pantry, Sunday School room, freezer room, and parking lot. The sailors are currently at Pearl Harbor Hickham base for the RIMPAC exercises. Many years ago, Dalton volunteered to help regularly with our outreach ministry. He got in touch to help again while he was here for the exercises. We are grateful for all their hard work, their great spirit, and especially for their service! May God bless them all.

She adds another accolade to a lengthy list with her most recent book, Rebecca Sue: A Sister’s Reflections on Disability, Faith, and Love, that was a finalist in this year's Christian Book Awards, among the oldest and most prestigious awards program in the religious publishing industry.
