Second Sunday of Easter

Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Bishop's Special Moments During Holy Week...

While there were numerous memorable moments during this year's Holy Week and Easter services, we share a couple of very special moments with the Bishop. Pictured below at the Parish of St. Clement, the Bishop was on hand to bless a font from Pam Fern (center with Bishop and the Rev. Brian Rallison) in memory of her mother, Dora Kraul, who died in early 2023, after dedicating decades of her life to the Church (see Chronicle March 2023). Below, at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, the Bishop shared these photos on his Facebook page saying, "During the Great Vigil of Easter, I had the gift of administering Holy Baptism to four adults. Two of them were of special significance for me. Nani Yong Carroll is my Executive Assistant (center photo) and Nicholas Keone Lee is the Cathedral’s Director of Music (right photo). It was a particular joy to proclaim for these two: 'We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in His eternal priesthood.'”

Daring to Dream at the Diocesan Youth Retreat

The Diocesan Youth Retreat was a success! Held on April 11-13, 2025, we hosted 59 campers and 10 volunteer cabin counselors from diverse backgrounds, representing four different islands, seven Episcopal churches, two United Methodist churches, and one non-denominational church. Everyone enjoyed beach time, arts and crafts, team-building games, and a relay race. Forging new friendships, the campers explored what it felt like to "Dare to Dream" with the encouragement of the Rev. Kawika Jackson. New Life at Holy Innocents, Maui

It's been a year and eight months since the horrific fires on Maui leveled Lahaina town, shattering the lives of thousands. Our own Holy Innocents Episcopal Church was destroyed, and while progress to clear the rubble and mend broken lives has been slow, there are now signs of recovery, healing and hope, in a community that was utterly devastated. The Rev. Canon Sandy Graham, who has been making regular visits to the Valley Isle, spent Easter with the Holy Innocents' 'ohana. They have been temporarily worshiping at the Honolua United Methodist Church in Napili. Reminder! Talk Story Listening Session on O'ahu

The Standing Committee is holding a Listening Session on O'ahu for all clergy and church members on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM. It will be held at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, 1801 10th Ave, in Palolo. These ongoing island “talk story listening sessions” are to hear comments and concerns, or answer any questions that members of the O'ahu parishes and missions might have about the Diocese, the state of the Church, or any other issue related to our common life and ministries with each other. As we serve the Diocese of Hawai'i, the Standing Committee would love to hear whatever might be on your mind or heart as we all move into the future. This is an opportunity for all O'ahu members to ask questions and to get involved in the Diocese.

Coming Up! Workshops on Addiction Awareness and Response

The Rev. Dcn Bill Heran, PhD., a transitional deacon, brings the perfect combination of background, training, and teaching style to guide us in understanding amd recognizing signs of addictive use disorders, and how to support those affected. In-person workshops will take place on each island, fostering a more profound and impactful learning experience.

The first workshop will be held on Maui, Saturday, May 17, 10:00 AM-11:30 AM, at Seabury Hall, 480, Olinda Road in Makawao. Refreshments and support crew will be provided by students of Seabury's Community Service Leadership. EPISCOPAL CHURCHES, DIOCESES OBSERVE EARTH DAY WITH EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS - [Episcopal News Service, Apr 22, 2025] April 22 is Earth Day, and many Episcopal congregations and ministries [observed] the day by organizing and participating in various creation care-themed events through the coming weeks, including recycling collections, festivals, educational activities and more.

“Now is not the time for The Episcopal Church to either falter or step away from our love and passion for God’s creation, rather it is a time for prophetic, visionary action,” the Green Caucus of The Episcopal Church said in a written statement for Earth Day 2025. READ MORE

St. James' & 'Iolani School Collaboration

We were blessed to have approximately 100 - 4th grade students along with their chaperones from ‘Iolani Lower School today. They were on island as part of their Hawaiian Studies field trip and enjoyed time of reflection and lunch in the pavilion. A sincere Mahalo to the Reverend Canon Andrew Arakawa and Lisa Oshiro-Tamura from ʻIolani for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful afternoon! Anglican, Episcopal leaders pay tribute to Pope Francis as world mourns his death

[April 21, 2025] Pope Francis, who led the Roman Catholic Church and its 1.3 billion members worldwide since 2013, died the morning of April 21 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. He was 88. A day earlier, from a balcony at St. Peter’s Basilica, seated in a wheelchair, Francis blessed a crowd of tens of thousands gathered in the square to celebrate Easter. READ MORE
