A great start to the year
|
|
As we approach the end of February, we start to see the end of summer - signifying that 2021 is well and truly underway! Though I will miss the warm sunny days, I look forward to snuggling in with cups of tea and a good book in my spare time. And precious it is - for February has been a busy month here at Nutrition Australia NSW! That's the way we like it - we are all about making a real difference in nutrition and public health. As a recently named Board Member of United Nations Association of Australia (NSW Division), I am looking forward to opportunities to help build healthy, sustainable communities.

With the start of the NSW school year, we have been ramping up our delivery of nutrition education programs, Reclaim the Lunchbox and Mighty Bites. I warmly thank the NSW Department of Health, in particular Sydney Local and South Eastern Sydney LHD, for their continued support. We were also proud to be part of some amazing community events, including co-hosting the Healthier Blend Expo with SHARE SMR Inc and providing better health tips and good fortune fruits at Little Lunar Festival - both supported by Georges River Council to honor their In Good Taste Festival. Helping schools, workplaces, and communities achieve healthy eating in a sustainable, affordable, and accessible way is our passion. To get involved with our initiatives, or if you have an event or program you'd like us to attend, I encourage you to get in touch on [email protected].
In good health,
Barbara Ward
President of Nutrition Australia NSW

Lunar New Year 2021
Did you know that oranges and mandarins symbolise good fortune? The round shape and golden colors represent wealth and fullness for the year ahead. We were delighted to provide these fruits at Little Lunar Festival on February 19 at Hurstville Plaza. Mayor Kevin Greene was impressed with the work we do in the community and thanked us for being part of this annual event. Thank you to our volunteers and Geroges River Council for a fantastic evening.

Healthier Blend Expo
Regular exercise and healthy food are the best combination for living a healthy life. Our Healthiest Blend Expo with SHARE held on February 10 showcased the ways multi-disciplinary care come together for enhanced overall well-being - an area we are continuing to advocate for to improve holistic support for vulnerable communities.
