The Heart of Your Home
Debi Mazar once said that it is often the kitchen that is the heart of every home, since it evokes memories of your family history. We could not agree more! The kitchen is more than just a place in which meals are prepared, it is a hub of activity within your home and closely intertwined with numerous celebrations and events. With the holiday season quickly approaching, your kitchen will likely play a vital role in your celebrations. The kitchen of your home is where memories will be made, so it is important to take the time now to plan your dream kitchen accordingly.
Considerations for Your Log Home Kitchen

Just like all the other features of your home, the kitchen can be customized to suit your specific lifestyle needs, family size, decorating style and budget. Here are a few considerations to keep in mind as you are planning your dream kitchen.

Planning for adequate lighting to supplement the natural light from the windows should be high on your priority list. You could accomplish this with under-cabinet lighting, or just a simple pendulum light over your counter or workspace.

Speaking of workspaces and counters, you could also consider putting an island into your kitchen plans, if you have enough space. An island provides you with an additional workspace, storage and can be incredibly useful when it you entertain friends and family.

Ample storage is another consideration for any kitchen. As already mentioned, an island can provide additional storage space, but you can also plan for cabinets that reach the ceiling to take advantage of the vertical space. You can also plan for customized drawer spaces to hold utensils or silverware, and utilize tray pullouts in narrow spaces.

A Balance of Utilitarian Needs and Aesthetic Desires

The majority of log homes feature an open floor plan, which means that most homes feature beautiful hardwood floors throughout, which offers a warmth and appeal that is timeless. Hardwood floors are a perfect example of balancing function and style. However, you can also opt for other floor coverings in your kitchen, such as porcelain tile, but make sure you choose one that is slip resistant!

Other practical considerations for your kitchen would be what appliances are 'must haves', and what you may prefer to do without. Some appliances, such as a stove and refrigerator, are essential (and some may consider a dishwasher essential as well!). But don't forget to plan for any small appliances too.

Even if you know exactly what you want in regards to your kitchen layout and appliances, there are still countless options for customization and opportunities for your personal style to show through. These can include countertop materials, appliance finishes, cabinetry, and fixtures, just to name a few!

The textures, patterns, grains and even scents found within log homes will naturally stimulate the senses, sometimes evoking a strong emotional response. This is especially true within the kitchen, where some of the most precious memories of time spent with loved ones are made.
Whether its a small intimate gathering or its the hustle and bustle of a larger crowd, your kitchen will play a vital role in your celebrations this holiday season. We can help you to plan the kitchen of your dreams where a lifetime of memories can be made. Give us a call so we can answer any questions and discuss how to make your dreams become a reality!
