Grounds Update
Thank you to all of you who braved the cold snow/sleet/whatever it was that came down last Saturday as we were planting. And to those who showed up on Tuesday to work on the labyrinth. A special thanks to Allan Willoughby for the beautiful benches he made for the labyrinth, hanks to Monty Harris for the ditch witch, and Pat Richardson for the Easter Sign and new post.. I Invite you to take a look at the garden and our new orchard and also the labyrinth area. Some of you have volunteered not only your time but also equipment which is greatly appreciated. I am looking for a small tractor and plow to use if you happen to have one, let me know. Thanks again for everyone's hard work; more to come. Bo+

The Ascension Trekkers are looking forward to two more treks this month to see the spring wildflowers. On Saturday, April 16, Joe Vrba (vrba.joe@gmail.com) will lead us on Porters Creek Trail in the Greenbrier section of the Smokies, 5.9 miles east of Gatlinburg on Hwy 321. From the parking lot, there is a 1/2 mile old wide road with a gentle rise offering some wildflowers and opportunities to see remnants of old homes up the right hillside before reaching a wide open area leading to a side trail to a historic farm site. Back on the entrance trail, begins the Porters Creek trail which narrows and takes a left turn across a log bridge to the mountainside carpets of wildflowers and up a short rocky and rooty 1.8 mile trail (rated moderate) to Fern Branch Falls, at about 500 ft elevation Some may take the option of hiking another steeper 1.8 miles to a campsite. The roundtrip hike to Fern Branch Falls is about 4-5 miles; the longer roundtrip will be about 8 miles. Contact Joe if interested in this outing so he can update you via text on meetup time, carpooling or other details.

The Easy Monday Hike on April 18 will be at the local Baxter Estate Gardens in North Knoxville. These beautiful gardens are open to the public free of charge during the April Dogwood Arts Festival. The gardens are quite vast and include a sloping hillside but paths and steps make roaming the whole area quite accessible. Some may want to limit where they go depending on endurance and ability to deal with steps. The plan is to carpool from the church at 9 am and upon arrival at the Gardens, allow walkers to meander at their own pace and direction after agreeing on a return-to-cars time. Google baxtergardens.org for more information. Those who wish to may decide to have lunch following this outing at a Fountain City Eatery. Notify Marlys Staudt (marlys413@comcast.net) or Emily Vreeland (emilyvree@aol.com) if interested in this walk so they can notify you via text of any changes or other details.

These two hikes will give nourishment to the body, soul, and spirit and we encourage everyone to consider getting out in God's Great Outdoor Cathedral as Mother Nature springs forth with her beauty.
