This Sunday
Services will be held at 8:00 am and 10:30 am this coming Sunday with a sermon by The Rev. Christopher W. Hogin. The 10:30 am service will feature a Kirkin' o' the Tartans with Kay Irwin, Beth Morgan, and John McClure on pipes and drum. Those of Scottish heritage are encouraged to bring your tartans for the blessing.

Adult Sunday School classes are cancelled for the ministry fair in the parish hall during the Sunday School hour.

“God Moments: Another Evening of Testimonials”
Wednesday, December 5, 6:45 pm

John 9:11, 25 “But I know this…I was blind…I went and washed, and now I see.” If we have met Christ, we have a story to tell. Testimonials are not something Episcopalians tend to routinely share, but they can provide support and encouragement to those who may not believe in, or at least need to hear of, these small miracles. Come hear 5 more of your fellow parishioners share the inspirational stories of times when God/The Holy Spirit has worked in their lives.
Advent Lessons and Carols
This coming Sunday evening, a candlelight service of Lessons and Carols for Advent will be offered by the Parish and Boys and Girls’ choirs at 5:30 pm. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
School Performances
This coming Tuesday, at 7:30 pm, the Madrigal Singers of Webb School will sing seasonal favorites in Renaissance garb. And on Thursday at 7:00 pm, the choirs of West High School will present their annual holiday program in Ascension’s nave. Both programs are open to the public.

Drop n' Shop
Saturday, December 8, 10:00 am-2:00 pm

Need a little bit more time to shop for Christmas? Bring your kiddos to the Drop n’ Shop on December 8th from 10:00am-2:00pm. We will watch holiday movies, eat pizza, play games and do crafts. RSVP to to register and let us know if your kids will be here for lunch. The lunch will take place from 11:30-12:15pm.
Sunday School and Children's Church

There will be NO Children’s Sunday School or Children’s Church on Sunday, December 16, so that we may all enjoy the Nativity Pageant put on by the children of Ascension during the 10:00 am service. Come enjoy this retelling of the birth of our Savior followed by a small reception after the service.
Harlem Globetrotters Trip

On Sunday, December 9 the Harlem Globetrotters are coming to town and Ascension Youth (grades 6-12) are going for a fun fellowship event! We’ll be meeting at Ascension at 2:00 to see their 3:00 performance at Thompson-Boling arena. Space is limited to 13, first come, first serve. Cost is $10 and any food purchases will be on your own. AYG High School Mission Trip 2019

Our Mission Trip for 2019 will be the week of June 8-14, 2019 and we will be serving the community of New Orleans, Louisiana through YouthWorks. Details are still in the works. Cost to our teens will be $300 per person. To secure your spot, a $100 deposit and your AYG release forms will need to be turned in no later than Sunday, December 16, 2018. This trip is open to our teens currently in grades 8-12.
Youth Confirmation

It’s not too early to start thinking about Youth Confirmation class! Starting in January we will have a youth confirmation class for those youth wishing to learn more about their faith in pursuit of becoming confirmed members of the Episcopal Church when Bishop Cole comes for his visitation in June. Plans are still firming up, but if you are a teenager who would like to be a part of this journey, please email GiGi at  to sign up.
Youth Room Open for Pre-Exam Cram

For the last two weeks of school (December 10th-13th and 17th-20th) as our youth prepare for their midterms and exams, the Youth Room will be open from 3:00-6:00 pm Monday through Thursday so that our youth may have a quiet space with WiFi and snacks to study and work on homework. Teens participating should sign in with the church office before making their way down to the Youth Room and sign out before departing. Feel free to contact GiGi with any questions!
KEY Christmas Party

Spruce Flat Falls
Wednesday, December 5, 9:00 am

The Ascension Trekkers will hike to Spruce Flats Falls in the Tremont area on Wednesday, December 5, leaving the church at 9 am. This is a popular short 2 mile round trip trail, rated moderate because it is a good mountain hiking sampler, having some steepness, rocks, roots, steps, narrow places, some views, and plenty of boulders for climbing or sitting while looking at the waterfall. For more information or to RSVP, contact Emily Vreeland (

FISH-ing for Diapers
One of the most requested items people ask the Ascension Pantry for is diapers. If you have little ones-as the white roses on our altar so often show-you know how important that item is. If you have an extra package or two, please consider donating them to the pantry when you stop by the FISH table at the Ministry Fair on December 2. All sizes will be joyfully welcomed. Thank you.
