Many pet owners develop a bad habit of feeding their animals from table scraps. As your pet begs underneath for a taste of your meal, the temptation can be great to share a little with your friend. Or maybe you just toss your leftovers and provide a tasty treat to your beloved animal. Do you give your pet the scraps off your plate? Surely, you don’t give them the best cut of meat. That would be silly to separate the choice portion of the meal and feed it to your pet while you take the scraps for yourself.
We often treat God like our beloved family pet. Before you argue with me, hear me out. The machine churns day-in and day-out as we strive to succeed (or survive) this thing called life. When it comes to our relationship with God, many times we end of up giving God the leftovers of our life. We pledge to spend time in prayer and Bible study if we have time at the end of the day. We will give God some time IF we aren’t too tired. We will attend worship and maybe even a Bible study class IF it’s not raining. We will get involved in the life of the church IF we have nothing better to do. We naturally busy ourselves with life and before we realize it, we end up giving God the scraps. I wonder how that makes God feel? What if He did the same for us? What if He gave us the scraps? Thankfully, that didn’t happen. He gave His only Son up for us…that’s how much He loves us and wants to spend time with us.
Do you give God your best or do you give him the scraps?
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33
