August 10, 2022

Hello Michelle,

A new season of life is upon us! The activity around the church is picking up as we prepare for new seasons of ministry and missions. School is about to begin with fall schedules and activities to follow. For many of us, that means a new set of routines. For others, it is just another day. Speaking of days…what can you accomplish in 40 days? A lot can be accomplished, new habits can be formed, and much can change. As we continue to see God move in our lives and in our church, it’s time for us to enter into a new season of focus and intentionality. As we grow, prayer must be at the core of everything we do. Prayer takes our best and multiplies it with God’s best! I want to challenge you to set aside 40 days, from August 22 to September 30, for focused prayer and fasting. We have established some BIG dreams for our personal lives and our church, now it is time to circle those dreams in prayer for the next 40 days.

On Sunday, we will lay the groundwork in preparation for our time in prayer and fasting. And then on Sunday, August 21, we will make final preparations to begin our season of prayer together. In the meantime, I would encourage you to spend some time focusing on your prayer list to determine which prayer needs you definitely want to circle over the next 40 days. Let me warn you, the evil one will NOT want you to participate. Be prepared to face internal conflict and even develop personal excuses for not joining us in a season of prayer. Resolve in your heart right now to resist the devil and refuse to entertain any excuse to not spend time with God.

I’m sure you have many questions about how to go about a 40 day season of focused prayer. I will do my best over the next few weeks to prepare and equip you with what you need for this journey. I can make you one promise. If you will participate, it will change you forever! Join us for an exciting adventure together!

Oakbrooke Teacher Classroom Help

Baring Cross has been asked to help teachers clean and set up their classrooms for the start of school. These work days will be August 18 and 19. If you are interested in helping on one or both of these days, please contact Michelle in the office or sign up at the Missions table in the foyer.

Popsicle Patrol

Our church provides popsicles and Gatorade to the Sylvan Hills High School football team after their Tuesday afternoon practice. This is a great opportunity to be a light to our community. Sign up in the foyer to work any Tuesday, or speak to Ron or Myra Talkington.

Students—join us for a night of community worship and Bible study. We will meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. to travel to Sherwood Forest. Once there, we will eat dinner, enjoy worship led by Rue Buell, and listen to a message by Josh Adair. We will return to the church by 8:00 p.m. This will be a great kickoff to the fall semester.
