Dear Highlands School Families:
Over the last several weeks, our team of administrators, board members, COVID Task Force and healthcare professionals have been working together to assemble this
School Re-Open Plan to safely and sensibly kick off our 2020-2021 school year in person, on site, and on time.
Yesterday, the Dallas County authorities asked all private and public schools not to reopen for "on campus, face-to-face instruction" until Tuesday, September 8th. This afternoon, however, our state Attorney General
made a statement
permitting religious private schools to
“continue to determine when it is safe for their communities to resume in-person instruction free from any government mandate or interference.”
Since religious private schools, including The Highlands School, are able to resume on site instruction,
will begin the new school year on August 10th, offering families the option for in person or online streaming from the same classroom.
To ensure that each student can learn from home through synchronous streaming of the classroom, regardless of your decision to learn at school or from home, the first two days of school (August 10
th and 11
th) are now dedicated to distributing learning materials, addressing at-home technology needs and ensuring that our new school year will get off to a great start.
Details will follow together with a survey for parents to help our team to address your student’s remote learning needs.
A safe school means new routines. As a result, this Re-Open Plan considers the following:
- Official mandates of Dallas county, Texas state, national, and accrediting authorities
- Expectations of parents for their children’s welfare
- Recommended behaviors and practices designed to mitigate transmission of the virus
- Facility readiness efforts to support personal health safety and contact control
- Protocols for responding to illness discovery or shelter in place mandates
- Attention to teacher safety and professional readiness for new learning methods
- An openness to God’s plan that inspires flexibility and patience as circumstances change
We want to keep kids safe by offering you the flexibility to decide the best way for your child to learn in the weeks and months ahead. Learn on campus or at home: you decide!
Throughout so many challenges, our school’s mission remains: to transmit the fullness of the gospel, to help form young people into Christian leaders, and to offer an excellent academic education with which our children can know and face the world with an intrepid spirit and personal success.
Thank you for your prayers, your commitment to Catholic education, and your continued patience in this precious partnership we share in our work with
Mr. Jeff Schiefelbein,
President, Board of Trustees
