When Rigidized® Metals' founder, Richard S. "Stainless" Smith discovered the infamous cigarette case, the pattern embossed on it sparked the idea for Rigidized® Metals. And that pattern was the inspiration to begin rolling textures into stainless steel (and today, several other metals). That pattern, officially named in 1945, was 5WL®.

The pattern was, and remains to this day, over 80 years later, our most popular pattern. Available in all widths up to 60", it can be used in every single application we serve.

Pattern 5WL® is a shallow enough pattern to allow for a lighter material, but it's deep enough to highlight whatever application it's used in. Not only is it available in stainless steel, as mentioned above, it can be rolled in a variety of alloys - ranging from aluminum, to copper, brass and titanium. All of these materials can be specified on our website.

Pattern 5WL® is durable enough to withstand exterior forces and extremely high traffic interior areas, yet subtle enough to enhance a home or quiet environment. When colored or highlighted, the texture is not aggressive and offers a warm aesthetic, if desired. |

Pattern 5WL® is so popular, it's been used to clad the entire exteriors of buildings, manage the movement of food and packaging equipment, help keep restrooms sanitary, and simply appeal to the eye. The pattern is functional, durable, and beautiful, reflecting light and the colors of its surroundings.

Pattern 5WL®, powder coated and highlighted, creates two eye-catching options, depending on which side you highlight. |

Our Virginia option (right) has the non-prime (bumps down) side of the pattern powder coated, and then highlighted, so that the color remains in the recesses of the pattern. This applies to all powder coated and highlighted materials, offering an option for a colored material that will retain its dexterity with minimal maintenance.

Our Elmwood (left) option has the prime (bumps up) side of the pattern powder coated, and then highlighted, so more of the material is colored in, with just the tips of the texture exposed.
Both options are available in any RAL color option for powder coating and highlighting.

In our constant strive to keep looking forward, we continue to explore ways to evolve our products and make them more durable, more beautiful, and more long-lasting.
